It's not even that. If it's anything, it's NOS for Nitrous Oxide System. Everyone said "nitrous" for short before that crap movie came out. Now everyone talks about getting a "nos system" which would mean "nitrous oxide system system" and it's completely bogus. For the love of god, say NITROUS!

Here's the decomposition reaction that gives cars the boost...
2N2O(g) ----> 2N2(g)+O2(g)

Nitrogen oxide is also laughing gas. BUT when heated... N2O decomposes to N2 and O2 as you can see from the reaction above.
