    Dune Buggies

I was just wondering if any of you guys have dune buggies or any knowledge in building them. I wanted to find out if you build your own frame what kind of motor and tranny you would use. Also if its easier to just strip an old bug and add a roll cage and whatnot. Any help would be apreciated>

There are so many ways to go.
    How mechanically inclined are you?
How good at welding are you?

Im not bad at either but i got a lot to learn before i would call my self mecanicly inclined. I do have friends that are and i could probally rebuild a motor with a little help. I was talking to my shop teacher and he said all I really got to do is find a running bug and strip the body and slap on a roll cage. He said building your own frame is hard because you got to get the measurments exactly to you a bugs tranny.

two grand and street legal. Thats hella cheap. A sand rail is basically like a buggie right? I mean it would be able to climb dunes and jump stuff right? It wouldnt be just for racing?

They can do everything that you mentioned, we use them for mountain climbing as a cheap alternative to 4x4s thier real light so you pretty much just bounce over stuff.

Well me and my friends have 2 one was a gift from my best friends dad to him(he spoiled). The first one we built from scratch I am not sure what parts are needed my friend Matt did it he is really good with this kind of stuff. I know that it cost us abouy 800 bucks but its well worth it we have had so much fun with them. Brand new there about 2500.
