    I found a section in my book that is named "The Command Line" so i am gonna read that, also ctrl alt F1 brought me to the command line login, and it wouldnt let me back into KDE, and yea i used the command startkde, and startx, none worked . O well...i didnt learn Windows in a day, i wont learn this in a day either.

      x doesnt run in virtual console 1, it runs in virtual console 7, if you had hit ctrl alt f7 you would have gone back to kde. try it. each time you ctrl alt to a virtual console you are running another session, separate from the others. you can use them all at once, just switch between them. to get back to the session running x(and kde) just ctrl alt f7 back to the gui.
      try it out!

        *L* If your really good you can get more then one x-session going. My buddy runs two x-sessions on his box ... I need to get that config from him and try it out ... *L*
        A fun trick to try sometime is popping open a e-term window and then echoing messages into it ... I used to love doing that to people's machines at work *L*

          Guys he got it running. I just saw it. The dang thing looks so confusing to me. I just like windows alot more, alot easier to understand. But I have windows 2000, the thing is the biggest piece of crap ever. I get all these errors that say "unknown error"

            No Kyle, you are running Windows ME, u know the one Bill Gates like publically apologized for...i dont know if he did actually, but he should have. That thing crashed more than a normal Windows, which is plain illegal.

            I am happy to report no Linux crashes as of yet. Let me see, BIG CHEM TEST TOMORROW, what am i gonna do?? Read my book about command line...school can wait, linux has so much more than windows, its funny. Hey kyle once i get the hang of linux i will put it on your comp, you can keep windows but im gonna shrink the partition down to like the bare minimum to hold windows.

            Guys, do you know anywhere to download a decent linux C++ compiler? I cannot find one anywhere and wanna get programming again, before i forget it again....

            OHH, tomorrow is gonna be fun! We made a power point presentation, he is gonna show em off on the wall on an LCD projector thing, i dunno. Anyway, ours goes from a normal slide to a slide of the desktop, so he is gonna be like, what the hell? Then, at the very end he has to click 1 of 2 cows, one cow is connected to a prog that shuts down the computer, the other is connected to one that goes to C:\con\con either way he goes, the comp is gonna need to be rebooted(this teacher takes a lot of crap, hes cool.) We made the first slide of the show a pic of the windows shutdown screen edited to say, A PowerPoint presenation by THG(Those Hacker Guys) because the entire class thinks we r hackers cuz we changed the shutdown screen and information in the "my computer" properties. Anyway....thnx in advance for any quetions i might have answered.

            *edit* Another thought, any purely information websites about editing kernels and so forth, im asking way to many questions on AO when i should be reading so i want the sites so i can leave you people alone, *L*(if i may borrow from lopxtc of course)

              Actually what was great is that one of M$ goons was quoted in court as saying the KDE and Gnome are Operating System like M$ ... that cannot have their browser disabled without ceasing the function of the OS ... moron.

                  Open a terminal window and type

                  $ man g++
                  or
                  $ g++

                  and see what you get

                    Heh, i see it now, i dont completely understand it, and i was used to Dev-C++, like the n00b C++. Now i gotta learn to use this, is it saying basically write the script elsewhere then just run it with that compiler? Me lost

                        Well Kyle, the fact we r like 2 rooms apart and communicating on AO is sad, lazy we are. And....its how to learn C++, i know HOW to use it, cout cin int long var, func, not hard...but its the compiler itself kyle. It is totally different than what i am used to.

                          g++ is pretty straight forward .... read the man page and you will find out all you need. Just remember that if you forget to name your executable it will be called a.out

                            I type in man g++, i get a screen, about one window in size, cannot scroll down and it has pretty much useless info, is there more to it? Sorry for seeming like such a moron, but im totally new to linux as you know, im probably getting annoying as well....i know some windows n00bs piss me off when u try and explain things to them over the internet..its like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

                              Here is a link to the man page ...

                              also depending on how you have your shell setup, you may need to hit the space bar to scroll down through the man page.
