is paintball a sport

i suck at soccer, i suck at football, and i suck at paintball but i still love it!!! my parents said i have to play a sport this summer, and they insist that paintball is a hobby not a sport. so evey sunday i have to cough up my hard earned lawn mowing dough to pay for paintball?! what should i do ?!

ask them to define the word 'sport'.baseball has organized teams on a predetermined field trying to outscore each other, so does soccer, so does football, so does paintball!

Thats directly from The American Heritage College Dictionary; third edition.

Seems to me paintball falls into both of those definitions.

My practical definitions of sport and hobby:

Sport: Competition where two teams/people play to best each other.

Hobby: Something you do in your spare time for fun.

Paintball = both

by defenition its a sport, but by defenition, kickball, wallball, and other games you used to play when you were little are sports too. Heck some people even concider playing computer games such as Counter-Strike a sport too.

sadly curling is a sport. you know, that lame winter olympic ice shuffle board game. if that's a sport so is paintball. skeet shooting is also a sport. so are hunting and fishing in a way.

imho i think anything that takes skill , and can be or is competitive should be considered a sport... that would include anything from racing your best friend to see who can beat a comp/nintindo/PS/gamecube/xbox etc game first to seeing who wins head to head in a paintball game so tell your parents that your getting good excercise from paintball its what you want to do if theh have a problem with it its because they dont like paintball probaly and are trying to get you to quit thats just what im taking from this because therm saying its not a sport is hinting at that they dont approve of it

Well IMHO there are two types of paintball:

The Game - Recball
and
The Sport - Tournyball

Just like you can go out and play a game of football with friends or you can play the sport in an established league.

LittleKrems: your parents probably want you to play a real sport that will acutally benafit you and requires alot of physical excersise so you don't get out of shape. You don't run as much in paintball compared to most other sports and you can probabaly only play 2x a week max and plus its expensive. Most real sports don't require you to spend $60 on a case of paint. If you suck at soccer (wussy) and football... try hockey, lacrosse or basketball.
