I'm not trying to get into an arguement here... but SCCA events don't mean squat. I've seen every brand of car handle poorly and wonderfully on a given track. It has to do with individual setup and tuning, not factory. As for Stock Class, a stock-classed Civic could probably very easily take a stock-class Camaro on an autoX course: smaller wheels, lighter body, shorter turn radius, etc. Pure HP doesn't mean diddly when you're doing 35mph around orange cones in a parking lot. Then again, it's as much the driver as it is the car. You and I would probably turn very different laptimes in the same car.

There's certainly something to be said for pure, American muscle. Then again, there's something to be said for getting more than 8 mpg.

I have a friend that loves the rx7.... he owns a 89 with 60k miles on it. Guess what .. my 5.0 STOCK got the best of him... mines a 92 convertable. woaw

Did you know, the 3rd gen rx-7 are only good for 60k miles? They literally burn up the motor under heavy driving. That's why we don't see many of them? NO, no mechanic in iowa will tough em cause they are mazdas problem child.

Thick headed is thinkinga grocery getter will ever be more then a grocery getter.

To whoever said a GT will out handle a civic, or a camero a mustang... where do you get your facts? The cameros body weight killes it's cornering abilities. It's made for straight-stuff-it-down-your-throast drag racing. Mustangs fall into that catagory too for hte most part. The exception are the early 90's mustangs. VERY small cars lights weight and Saleens of those years have good chances with ricers.

But truly.... dollar for dollar ( cause it's all about hte almighty dollar right? that's why we don't all drive porsche's and farrari's ) you are getting more sport driving out of a Sport car.

        It's all about big engines.

          oops

I was thinking of the Saleen Mustang.

The Saleen Mustang out did the civic and integra on the skidpad..... not the GT.... my bad

            Heat..

its cause the rx7 has a rotary engine

They are small little engines... but you can get big power from them. The reason they dont last that long, is because the rotors(triangle things) have to be completely sealed from top to bottom, that is hella lot of friction, no matter how much you change your oil.

but 3rd gen rx7's are tight. period. Isnt 89 2nd gen?

Funny you should mention the ill=fated Wankel Engine powered Rx-7. I myself have an 89' RX-7 GXL that I'm in the progress of installing a "Race Built" 94' Ford 5.0 and T5 transmission in. I'm still building the initial engine, but I'm hoping to finish by the end of next month (hopefully my funding won't run out!).

Motor Trend, in the test section. Mustang, Camaro, Civic, and RSX are all with in 63 mph for the skid pad. The RSX is the highest at 63.9, 'stang was 63.4, civic and camaro both at 63.

                  I knew it!

I knew this would turn into a flame war somewhere along the lines of domestic vs. imports. First off, There are WAY too many "tuned" rice crap out there claiming/acting like they are fast when they have done nothing but a few bolt on upgrades (air intake, exhuast, etc.) But thats not to say there are some really impressive imports out there. I started working for a honda dealership for almost a month now (forgive me Ford ) and almost all of the mechanics cars are real rice burners. One dudes civic did the quartermile in 10 seconds, ill ask tomm on the exact time but 10 seconds is 10 seconds! My point is that the majority of the rice out there is pathetic and lame. You gotta be a real gearhead to be tinkering and pull out the real performance from a ricer.
Second! Capoeira and Automaggot, we all should go race our Jeeps Ill run over all thelil 2k lb. ricers . First one over/around/THROUGH that mountain wins

Almost forgot, the 2003 SVT mustang has 390 Horsepower , Moo hoo ha ha ha.

Ya I know it's a rotary... the funny thing is not a day after my friend bought with 89 rx7 he was towing it home... the thing over heated and it would stay garaged for another 4 months while they search for a dealership to fix it and finally had a friend from arizona fly in to help them fix it....

                      89 is second gen yup

btw I was thinking of getting a miata and sticking a 5.o l in it! I've been told it's easy enough and it would be light just like your Rx7 !!

This is in no way a flame... it's pretty much what I KNOW aobut the war between rice vs. Domestics

They are all good cars.. but physics demands that more flow = more power... add $$$ and all that left is a matter of how much the driver weighs
