Hey, I was just wondering if anyone know's about some good health sites, because a friend of mine drank an extreme amount of alcohol last week, and all through this week shes had stomach pain, and throws up like 2 hours after everymeal. I wanna do some research and just see whats up with that.

    thanks.

Have her go to the emergency room right now. Seriously, that is not right vomiting that much and having stomach pain for that long. Ever hear of Alcohol poisoning. Have her go in to a doc.

Yea, i would definetely get that checked out. Ask her which side the pain is coming from, it could be from a multitude of things. If its from the bottom rightish side, and she is throwing up, it could even be appendicitis, but i doubt it. Or the left side is her liver, maybe all the alcohol did something to it. I do not know, this is just for everyone's knowledge about appendicitis, it is reflux pain, if you push down it doesnt hurt, but when you release, they will scream because of the pain.

If she had alchohol poisoning she'd be dead already.

It depends on how much alcohol was fed into the system, the level of poisoning, and how long she has had it. Perhaps it was only minor alcohol poisoning, or maybe shes just plain sick with a nasty flu. Who knows, just get a doctor to check it out.

              mmm

thanks fer the advice, I know its not apendicitis, I already was blessed with that experience...heh. Came to the conclusion its either food poisoning, or something inflamed from a case of alcohol poisoning...but the whole going to the doctor...things get complicated, and luckily today she seemed alright, and I am coming down on her butt about alcohol, cuz all my stupid friends have no control.
              thanx AO'ers

Man seriously - take the girl to a doc. No matter what you read on the internet or what info you get here, nothing can replace a trained doctor's history-taking and physical exam. If she's as sick as you say, it's not worth sitting around and waiting.

Patriot - I don't know where the heck you're getting your info, but it's certainly not from a licensed doc. Any doc worth his salt will tell you that appendicitis pain will often be felt first in the midline, around your bellybutton. And appendicitis is not "reflux pain" like you say; I have no idea where you got that. But the real kicker:

the liver's on the right side of the body, not the left.

There's already way too much health misinformation floating around. Let's not add to it by spouting off things about which we have no clue.

Appendicitis, is a reflux pain, my father is a liscensed Physician and my mother used to work in ambulences. I was mistaken about the liver thing now that i think about it, i was mixing the liver up with the spleen, sorry :\ However i am not backing down about the reflux pain thing.

Reflux pain is what you get with heartburn, when you reflux your stomach contents up into your esophagus. The gastric acid irritates the lining of your esophagus, which gives you that characteristic heartburn feeling.

With appendicitis you sometimes get a symptom called rebound tenderness (which I think might be what you're meaning to say). This is where a doc presses in slowly on your belly and then releases quickly, eliciting more pain on the release than on the original press. This is a characteristic of more serious cases of appendicitis, when the appendix has already burst or is close to bursting. You can certainly have appendicitis and not have rebound tenderness, though.

In a way you've proven my point about the importance of talking to a doctor. Even though you can get medical information straight from your dad, it's very easy to misunderstand things, especially when you try to pass the information on (remember playing the telephone game in elementary school?). So I say again to everyone, if there's any question, if there's any lingering doubt, if you just feel a disturbance in the Force - go ahead and call a doctor.

Hamster's from Durham NC...as in where Duke University Medical School is at. The boy easily got 40 points more on his MCATs than i did (which i got a zero cuz i didn't take).

He's qualified to pull people's heads out of their arses now.

Reflux and Rebound, im such an idiot. You were correct...i doubt anyone would take me seriously anyway on some online forum. So you graduated from Duke Medical school?? Pretty impressive, my dad graduated from NYU Medical school then got his internship/residency at Belvue Medical Center in NYC.

Oh, and to make it not seem like my dad is a total fraud, i didnt directly ask him any of this. I just tried using the knowledge i have picked up from him over the years, asking questions and whatnot. I did put a disclaimer on my previous post however.
