    CD Player or MP3 player?

i need some help with this one. I need something portable to play music on. My CD player is broke.

Should I get one of those new CD players that plays CD-RW and MP3s or just get a MP3 player?

    Please give reasons why. Thanks.

I don't think CD players are up to date anymore. Definatly Mp3 player. I'm the biggest Mp3 junkie that ever lived.. even my cars cd deck is mp3 compatible. Trust me, once you pop you can't stop. You'll get used to having 200 songs to a cd instead of 20

So your saying get a cd player that can do MP3's?
MP3 players to watch for though are the small capacity one's. You'll find that you can put about 1 minute per 1 MB of space on the MP3 players.

I would suggest a Samsung YEPP for MP3 players, for a small size but descent storage space.

Or for cd's get a mini-disc player/recorder. They are smaller than a lot of MP3 players and can hold MP3's too! You can put up to like 5 hours on each mini-disc.

Or lastly, the more economical but large way to go, is get something like the Archos Jukebox. A 6 gig model is about $150 and it can hold 6 gigs of music, or 6,000 minutes. It is quite larger though, and is heavier than the aforementioned ones. You can get them up to 20 gigs if you want too.

I used to work at Best Buy, so I got asked that all the time. Today is actually my last day! I get my discount for today, then I'm gone. Not even working.

On a side note, they seem to think I'm coming into work tommorrow for a morning meeting and to work, RIIIIGGGHHHTTT.

I gave my 2 week notice exactly a 2 weeks ago, I did not however give a 2 week and a day notice

How about something that I can run with? (You know, light, may be able to take a hit or two, a little water resistant)

Most decent CD players nowadays can take the hits perfectly. I have yet to hear my new Walkman(cheap) skip, so I can only wonder how well the more expensive ones work.

I have had several of teh CD players that play MP3's and Ill never bother with just a straigh MP3 player unless its for doing something like jogging or something.

I have a Rio SP250 it has some silly memory for skip protection, reads cr & cdrw's and what no problem, has play list and directory listing and it also as a bonus has an FM tuner... I love it.

iPod 10GB, yeah it's pricey, but it's the size of a pack of cards, 10 hour battery life, has a 400Mb/s Firewire port, works as a portable harddrive in a pinch.

I'd suggest a Minidisk player, you get very high quality sound, can record from literally any audio source, some players double as players as well as recorders, the disks hold the same amount of music as CDs, on a 2.5" disk, which is self contained in its case. The whole unit isnt much larger than the disk itself, and usually have 40+ seconds of anti-skip. I love my minidisk player!

if your gonna go the MP3 player route, id go with the sony one, like half the size of an ipod, its probably just under 1" wide, and 2" long. think it uses sony memory sticks as well. take a look at www.sonystyle.com to find both their MP3 player and Minidisk players.

i would get a n mp3 player i have a cd player than can do regular and mp3 and it has a 2 and a half min skip but it takes 30 seconds at the begining of a song b4 it stops anti skipping which is a pain for me because the only time i reall listen to it is at the comp and when im walking and such(its annoying when you got the first 10 seconds of a song playing for 10 minutes) of course my skip got real bad(it wasnt as bad as it is now) after i dropped it from the top of a window sil thingy by accident when i went to sit down on the "throne"

I got my Wife one of those iPods for Christmas. Let me tell you this thing is the coolest ever device I have seen. SO far she has 85 CD's on it and still plenty of space left and we play it through the car sterio, poratables and... well... anything we find either a FM band or a set ot RCA plugs on as well as it plays itself with speakers or head phones...

Her's is the older style 5 GB HD one. Small as heck and packed with room for songs. 100 CD's on this one the 10 GB is of course double this one in space. Plus it can do anything. Programs, Pictures, Files etc...

Very nice but you gotta have mac and a firewire to load it up I think there are some windows knock offs showing up now.

                        MINIDISC!!!

You can't go wrong with a minidisc player/recorder! I feel an argument, but you'll never get the same quality from an MP3 that you will straight from the studio recorded disc. With an MP3, your making a copy of someone's copy, of someone's copy, etc... With a minidisc, you're making a copy of the original--what can be better? Of course, if you have digital outputs on your home receiver, then your recording will just be that much better. I use my MD constantly. The other cool thing about MDs, unlike CD-Rs or even CD-RWs, is that you can erase the whole disc or just one track; shuffle tracks and put them in any order; join tracks; and much more! And you can't beat the size and anti-skip factor. I've had my MD for 3 years now, and it only skipped once--when it fell out of my backpack. It got a little scuffed up, but it still works great!

Ultimately, the choice is yours. Have fun!

mini-disks are pretty cool I agree, but still....when you load the music onto it, your still getting it from SOMEONE. and with the CD/mp3 player you can also delete tracks you dont want and rearrange them. you also have a 120 sec ESP, which I have tested personally. I have shaken my cd for 5 friggin minuets NON-STOP as hard as i could and it wouldn't skip. and if your satisfied with the way the song sounds when you download it, its exactly the same once on a cd. and again...you dont have to worry about converting all yours cd's to a mini-disk OR mp3 chip. you just burn um on a cd. voila, IMO the best way to go. but you can make your own decision

It looks like the new Sony Net MD Minidisk players can now copy MP3s directly to the disk from your puter, they claim, or at least this is how I understood it when I glanced over it, you can fit 5 hours worth of MP3 music, downloaded from your PC in about 3 minutes. Minidisks just keep getting better! I might have to 'upgrade' my older Sony MZ-R50 Minidisk player for a new one! looks like theyre beginning to give you the best of all three worlds! And even improves on them! in ways an MP3 player and MP3 CD Player couldnt even imagine!

Might wanna look at the link below, tis a lil thing about Sony Net MD
