ok, I need your input with some new delicates I've gotten. Ask your wifes, husbands, mothers, fathers, friends, whatever. I just spent a whole lot of money on a tommy bed set so I want to wash it but half of it is white and half of it is red. I really don't want it to fade and ruin or I will kill myself. I called my mother and she said that if I wash it in cold water that it won't fade as long as I don't use bleach. The actual blanket says to wash it in warm water. I want a whole bunch of opinions before I make a move. thanks in advance.

Follow your mom's advice and wash it in cold water. Use a detergent that has bleach in it but is for colors (sorry I can't remember the term and my detergent is in my car). Fill the washer half way and mix the detergent in it before you put the sheets in(liquid mixes better). Oh, and use a softener. Check the tag to see if it's pre-shrunk, if not, don't use a dryer, hang it dry.
Tommy makes pretty good stuff so it shouldn't fade.

You make it sound like it is 2 pieces, one white, one red. I doubt it however because if this was the case i assume you would have the intelligence to just wash them separately. So bascially this post has no use. :/Comment

Havoc,
Around here they call me the master stain remover, I can get a stain out of Just about anything.
Just ask my husband, he can't eat with out getting something on himself.
Okay here's my advice wash it in cold and use a "color safe" bleach. Not regular bleach. If you use regular bleach you run the risk of it not diluting in the water fast enough and bleaching out the red.
Yes you can use the washer sheets that trap extra dye, those are always handy.
Another thing if the red does bleed, put the washer on as hot as it can go. and wash it again with the same bleach, then do a rise in cold and it will get the bleeding color out.
Another good thing to do, is take it to the dry cleaner : ) If they destroy it and they are masters at their job, they will owe you money for the bedding.
Take care and good luck!!!

All accounting for taste aside sounds like you would better off ruining it...
Cold water for everything! No sorting required. If the stain doesn't come out throw it away...
My Wife hates it when I do the laundry...wonder why?

it's a comforter? they don't need washing. Just hang them outside every month or so for a few days to air them out and you're good to go. (sarcasm intended)
actually I have no idea, I only buy comforters that are solid colors. but they are a pain to wash, take up nearly a whole load themselves.Comment

You will love this one
Never use fabric sofners, they ruin the feel of the cloth. Something else never use them on anything you want to absorb like towles and wash cloths, the stuff thats in the sofner does something to the fabric. Ever wonder why those hotel towles suck ? They use sofner.
Something else most comfortors are quite large and are too big for the typical home washer. Suggestion is to use the washer at the local laundry mat thats a good 40lb+ load capacity.
As to doing the actual wash, to err on the side of caution use cold water and something like wool lite, it has no emzimes and does a damn good job on delicates. It what I use on my PJ Antron Pants.
The "color safe" bleachs are really heavy in emzimes and I have never liked what they do to my clothes. I also dont use sented anythings blah
Good luck
