AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
The Millenium Falcon is actually a Corellian Frigate, not a fighter. Duh!
No.
Its a CEC YT-1300 Transport. A frigate is a warship, the Falcon is a cargo ship. The Falcon is just heavily modified.
And honestly, you really don't want it. Unless you are intimitely familiar with all its jury-rigged systems and modifications, the ship would literally fall apart around you. The only thing holding it together is the fact Chewie and Han are so good at fixing it.

I just realised this on the bus to college this morning, I meant to say freighter.
Originally posted by Sinnet although the pieship is tempting, the interceptor's by far the best... anyone who's into this stuff should go out and buy xwing vs. tie fighter the game right now
Actually, you might prefer XWing: Alliance. It's the latest incarnation in the series, albeit slightly old. It has a better storyline and supports 3d graphics cards. Where's xwing vs tie is just a pumped up version of the original Tie Fighter.

You missed one of the most interesting (I won't say best) Imperial fighters. An offset of the Gunboat and first seen in the Tie Fighter expansion... The Missleboat

Which had 2 bomb racks capable of carrying 40 concussion missles each + 1 standard laser cannon, which could be diverted into the SLAM, for a speed boost of over 400 MGLT (Lucasarts speed units- as to how this compares to WEG, nobody knows)

The missleboat was nice for going up against capital ships and space stations, but I found it to be only marginal in starfighter combat. I wouldn't mind one watching my back in a fire support role, though.
There are three kinds of people in the world: Those who can count, and those who can't.
With understanding comes understanding.
If the saying is true that we are what we eat, aren't we all just cannibals?

Your going to cover up the exhaust port? Fine by me, when the core overheats and explodes though, you'll be sorry. Like I said, the Tie Defender is where it's at, although there's a few fighters that I'd settle for if the Defender wasn't available.

THe missile boat, in my knowledge, only appears in the video games, and doesn't exist in the novels, technical books, RPG, or comic books.
And as for the best fighter, in pure technology its the TIE Defender.
BUT, Y-Wings are some of the most dangerous ships. Why, you may ask? Because it has a gunner. THe pilot can concentrate on piloting, and the gunner can concentrate on shooting the badguys. Two is greater than one
Plus the Y-Wing has a good armament, a strong chassy, and its speed isnt TOO pitiful.
Any ship with a gunner and a pilot has an advantage over a ship with only a pilot.
There's a reason Y Wings are called wallowing pigs. I've noticed that even on Tie Fighter, it doesn't take too much to vape a Y Wing. It's only saving grace is it has shields.

The video games don't accurately represent how deadly a Y-Wing should be
The computer pilots can shoot, steer, balance shields, keep track of targets, etc, etc, without any problem. Computers are good at multitasking
However, a human pilot trying to manage all those tasks would be spread a lot thinner. If he is trying to shoot while balancing his shields, his aim might be a little off, or his dodging may not be so fast.
With a gunner, the pilot is free to worry about piloting tasks, while the gunner can worry about gunnery tasks
That means better aiming, better piloting, better targeting, better shield management, better communications, pretty much better everything.
For example, try typing a paragraph with one hand while dialing a phone number with the other hand. Having trouble? Having someone ELSE to make the phone call while you typed your paragraph would increase the speed of the work immensely, and make it less prone to errors.
With equally skilled pilots/gunners, a squadron of Y-Wings should be able to chew through a squadron of TIE/ln, TIE Interceptors, TIE Bombers, or probably even TIE Advanced.
