For a great example of that, watch Das Boot in German with English subtitles on (assuming you speak German).

Nasty translation: Japanese AKIRA DVD w/ english subtitles

Oh man that was horrible. It has the japanese dialogue with english subs and its word for word. VERY confusing.

As far as the scope goes, they were actually used. They are fairly accurate to a point; not accurate to take that shot though. But, they were decent scopes. Most sniper engagement during that war were 2-300 yds at best. Couldnt really gvet a longer shot in that terrain. With that scope, a .308 can easily make that range, depending on the shooter. It is hollywood though, and I'm sure it was either that or a nice round hole in the head. Neither shot is a reality for a sniper to take; a head target is simply too small and moves too much.
When Carlos made that shot, he only shot at a glare of light. He had no idea that he even hit the enemy, till he crawled down there a while later to confirm. It was almost a reflex shot for him. Thats what made him one of a kind in his field.

Can you imagine what it takes to do that after sitting out in the jungle, stock still, for as long as he did? He needs a movie and a CMH, post haste!
