Praise the bones. That's been bugging me for months. Everytime I think of using them as a reference I couldn't remember their names.

Stadler and Waldorf they were my favs!

I have been a faithful watcher of the muppets since they first came out along with Seasame Street. I have watched every tv show and movie made. I always loved stuffed animals when I was little and the shows made me think that my stuffed animals were real but I never could understand why they didn't talk like tv.

The green guy that was mentioned is the Famous Kermit the Frog.

One of my goals in life was to meet Jim Henson, however he passed away before I had the chance.

Now the company is owned by the Walt Disney company but managed by Jim Henson's oldest son.

Some other favs of mine were Beaker, Animal, Sam the Eagle, Swedish Chef, the rats, Miss Piggy, the Burn Out Jazz band, Gonzo, Fozzy Bear, Rolf, the list goes on.

Muppets in Space was a newer movie that came out you should rent it Assassn, it was funny.

If I recall correctly, they were called "The Electric Mayhem." They even had their own tour bus.

The muppet show and the muppet movies are some of the funniest things every made.

Jim Henson made some many things that brought joy to sooooo many people...

Back to the first question, AssassN, You've heard of Yoda?....He's a Muppet. The non-humans on Farscape? Muppets.

Jim Henson's style of puppeteering was so unique, that he changed what he called his puppets to Muppets, which are designed to be on TV and on screen. He normally explained them as "a combination of marionettes and puppets." But then also says, that it was just a word that he coined.

Anything that Henson (the company, and the man) makes are considered Muppets. Even the computer imaged characters are Muppets.

Secondly, Disney does not own the Muppets, the Jim Henson Company is actually owned by EM.TV, a large German media company.

thus endith my way too long ramble, because dinner calls.

I just had one of those incredible flashes in your mind super ideas... (please forgive me if it isn't as great as I think it is, I've been out in the sun all day)

They sing and do all that stuff... Most everything they've ever done has had a musical number in it right?

            Musical+Puppets=Muppets

            Eh eh? Am I right?

er, No. Quite a few Muppets have never involved with a musical number. Yoda for one. I'm sure there are others. The Secret of Nymh.

The company line is "marionettes and puppets" However, they have said that they made that up to explain the name afterwards.

I think, if they had heard of your idea, *that* would be the new company line. You have a much better explaination. I like it a lot better than "marionettes and puppets"

Interestingly, while Henson (and his company) made up all those original visuals and muppets, they hardly make up any original music... I find that fairly odd, given the amount od creative talent in that company.

Edit: ignore the above, I just thought of several Original songs that they have down... shame on me.

              For bonus cookies, name some.

Okay Bofh you are correct, however in time Disney may have in the work to purchase the Jim Henson company.

There's some what of a conspiracy on the matter here's a link

Muppets, Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock - Muppet Central is the Internet's leading source for Jim Henson news and collectibles.

                in their news section.

I had made the assumption that Disney had bought out Jim Henson when Disney started broadcasting Jim Henson shows on ABC and the Disney channel. Shows such as Dinosaurs and Bear in the Big Blue House.

so forgive me for jumping the gun

I remember that a few years ago that Disney had press-release about exclusively retaining Henson Production. It sounded an awful lot like buying them, to the extent that they said the management wouldn't change, (which is a sure sign of a buyout ) Then a Muppet ride opened up in Disney world, and Dinosaurs (the series) came out. And I thought the same as you... except I dislike Disney as much as Microsoft.

I figured it was a done deal years ago, until I heard about EM.TV

EM.TV, as I know it, is looking to sell JHC, because they are in deep money trouble. They also have %75 stake in the TV rights to broadcast F1 races. (which is huge, bigger than the NFL in TV sales worldwide) and if they can't make gobs and gobs of money off of that... they're doomed.

Bofh that is what I thought way back in 1989 when I heard that Dinosaurs was on the ABC network.

I do agree with you also, that I wish that Disney didn't get their hands on that company, mainly because I don't like what the Disney enterprise has done to childrens entertainment.

I don't like the storylines they portray. Muppets has always had a innocense to their shows and Disney seems to me the more money they make the less they care.

                                Bork Bork Bork!

I've got some friends from Denmark (close to Sweden and the lanuage is close enough), and we went to a Danish Seaman's Church Bazzaar. (where everone but me, is Danish) and they were talking Danish to everybody, and when I tap Erik on the shoulder and asked him a question, he turned around, and I swear, just said a whole bunch of Swedish Chef at me. All I could do is stare at him and say "Bork"

Danish as far as I can tell is Mock Swedish.
