    Building your Own Computer

i was thinking of building my own computer, i heard people mention it before that they built a nice computer for about 300 and less. i was wondering if you could tell me what things i should get and what they cost.

the things i do besides go online is play games like halflife which dont take too much to run(since its so old) and newer powerful games like morrowind(i can run that on 1127x742 or something liek that with no problems inside houses but outside in towns i slow down etc)

Less than $300? Heck, M/B-CPU-Memory should cost you about that.

    I'd plan on $800-$1000+

I doubt under $300, but you should be able to build something nice for around $500.

AMD Processor and MB - $200 - I'm sure you could get a 1.5GHz at least on sale w/ MB
DDR SDRAM - $150 - Get as much as you can
Video card - $150-200 - Again, one as fast as you can w/ good memory

It will be more if you need a new HD, case, CD-ROM/DVD, ect...

Look for sales. No need to buy the best, just buy last year's best for a huge discount...

Try this website, from what I've seen they have the best deals around. I was looking into building my friend a 2 gig machine with some nice goodies, and it came to around $600 for everything.

are we talking building a complete setup or gutting an old machine. don't forget all the little things like a case to stick everything in, a power supply, things like that. need a monitor? speakers?

after rereading your original post you might be able to get away with it. however you wouldn't be "building" a computer. you would be upgrading your old one. for $300 you increase your computer's performance quite a bit.

The computer for my buddy is a complete "computer" setup FYI, just the computer, no speakers/monitor/keyboard, well in short, none of the external crap. hrm maybe I should've just edited my other post.

so if i spent 1000(i could get help from my mom maybe) it would be better to make my own or just buy one for the same price?

You could build a nice computer for a grand.

                    I'd allot $700 for decent, well-rounded system.

look for a barebones system. usually has a mobo w/processor, ram, hd, ps, and case. I've seen decent setups for under 500.
