    Just Wet Myself, stupid computer...

Well i went to o/c my computer, and it was at 133 FSB so i tried 140, worked fine. Then i wasnt thinking and upped that shiz to 150, then the comp wouldnt boot, well after every word that would get me banned from this forum i decided to pick up the manual. I just randomly opened it up and saw something, a little switch that controls the FSB, built onto the Mobo. This saved my life....i put it back to 100, and then fixed my BIOS from there. All i know is, im never gonna o/c anything ever again.

Well, i lied, i said that to myself and proceeded to do it again and tried 145, and i got some blue screen of death error so im staying at 140, so right now i got a 1.68 ghz Athlon 1900+ w/ a geforce 4 ti4400 o/ced on top of the upped FSB.

When you O/C too high and won't turn on, clear CMOS and it will boot.

No Miscue, it wouldnt even boot to the BIOS screen or anything, the monitor just died, and the comp just sat there. I am assuming clearing the CMOS is done when the computer is on, im fairly new to computer hardware, how would one go about clearing the CMOS?

        /me smacks forehead.

Find the clear CMOS jumper on your board.

Computer needs to be OFF! Unplug it too.

I don't understand why people still overclock... the golden days of overclocking have long passed. It's kinda dumb now.

overclocking is for people who just aren't satisfied that they are getting 140fps on quake 3 becuase they can get an extra 2fps if overclocked. even though monitors can only refresh at 80hz, gofigure!

It is a new computer, and my mom was saying i should stop messing with it, which is what she thought i was doing when installing FreeBSD(which still doesnt work i might add, no matter what mouse i use, the pointer shoots up into the top lefthand corner and then doesnt move from there)

Anyway, if she then found out i was messing with the speeds, she would FLIP, even if it wasnt broken for good, i would be in so deep.

then I would assume that all you guys who don't understand why we overclock also have totally stock from the factory markers?

                    somehow I doubt it...

That's about the smartest thing I've heard outa your mouth since i've known you. Evern though alot for Bios etc. supply you with easy o/c methods my question is WHY? Hardware from hte factory is set to a safe running level. And most New hardware is still betteer ten the software that goes on it... much better.

Ya know my Geforce lost it's fan for hte 4th time... hte bearings went bad.. so I just unpluged it finally and without overclocking it runs fine

Well its not like im o/cing my Geforce to super limits, im just overclocking it to the next level, the 4600's are about an exra hundred dollars, i just sped mine up to 4600 speeds, for a lot less $$.

2 things patriot...u gotta learn what you're doing first, and its hard to screw stuff up Overclocking.

Oh, and a 3rd thing, if your at all like me you will stop being obsessive about your new computer. When i first got my beast like a year and a half ago it was a athlon 900 i OCed to 1.1ghz. It was hot . best chip on the market was 1.2 at that time so it wasnt too shabby.

Then like 6 mos. ago I traded for a duron 650. She does like 1050mhz. I had her up there, decided it doesnt matter, now she's somewhere around 800ish...just cuz its easy to remember.

Also, dont be dumb and try to squeeze another 240mhz outta your computer in 1 go. SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE! try 1 or 2 mhz FSB at a time. not 10. you have a 12 multiplier for gods sake (i think, not too up on technology )

anyhow, dont spaz when something normal happens. READ YOUR GOD FORSAKEN MANUAL (CMOS is a duh)

also, miscue, while the golden age of overclocking is over, there is still a point. a 1.6A P4 that goes for 120 bucks or something does 2ghz ruitinely...ive seen peeple say they get em to 2.3 or 2.4 or something crazy. That helps in todays game, which i dont play.

Speaking of which, i just installed soldier of fortune 2 and all it does is freeze my computer. CRIKIE!
