Not one kid "YOU" know can relate to it. By the looks of your new home I don't think anyone you know would relate to being poor. Now someone who grew up in the area these people rap about would relate to it.

Given that your 15 I doubt you relate to the bands you've just listed, but you still listen to them. Why cause you like them, same reason these people who you refer to listen to rap.

im getting a kick out of this

many of you werent even born when rap came to be. i was in the 6th grade and i remember the day "rappers delight" by the sugar hill gang hit the airwaves. grandmaster flash and the furious five reigned supreme.the infamous roxanne, roxanne. mel e mel, the fat boys. run dmc.fab 5 freddy. rap of course has evolved and is still here some 22 years later, they said it was a passing thing. guess what.
some of it does stink, and alot of kids are taking the hip hop lifestyle a little too seriously.
the beastie boys are testament to the power and sophisticaton hip hop music can have. if you think im joking you have never really listened.
      i like some rap
      i dont like some rap
i like eminem. deep down if you look at it , hes funny as hell.
and i certainly can bust out my 5 string and bang out some tunes. i regularly do. all styles.
      its all good brutha.

i must agree with ir for a sec tho, i think that rap music has slowly began to get worse and worse, i mean he is right, you see lots of ice and lots of stupid slang words like bling and stuff and that kind of crap makes me sick, i mean its fun to say for a week or so to just make fun of it and then its over, he is right when he says that some rap is bogus cause it is, but thats like anything else, i think that, just because you dont listen to it doesnt give you the right ti hate it, obvioulsy you have some wrong ideas about it, and that ok, everyone has their own stereo-types about things, im not gonna try and preach the good rap to you, cause you dont care, i mean thats ok, but says that all rap is lame or whatever is too over the top because your gonna miss out on all the good stuff that means alot to alot of people, hell im no where near poor but there are things i can relate to, maybe not in the same way as the rapper does but it still means something to me, and isnt that what music is really all about? music is good because it makes you feel good, anyways
        YEAH

Acctually I can relate to alot of the music I listen to. Not always in a literal sense, although Pink Floyd really does hit the hammer on how life is on the Northshore. Especially going to the school I did. (And just because you see an over head picture of my house from some space satellite doesn't mean you know my life) But I am also a musican, and have great respect for anyone who can play an instrument like many of the greats. And being a teenager who still listens and still learns music from guys who have died 40 years ago is a tribute to their greatness.

You can go ahead and flame me for MY taste in MUSIC. I have simply said what I feel and why kids around me like rap. I am not going to hop thru the computer screen and say to you " Your [insert a fact here] so you can't relate to the music you like." I don't know you, I don't know where your from or who your parents are.

I'm not flaming you for your taste, I like all music and I do mean all(except country). I just get aggrivated when people say something takes no talent, when it takes alot of talent.

Let me clear up a few things I said. I was using your age and the "relative" argument because the bands are alot older than you and it's hard to relate to somehting from a differant time period. Second the fact that I have seen a picture of your house tells me your family does have money and it would be unlikely that your in a "ghetto" and most of your friends would be from a similar life style. Meaning you would not relate to it.

The only reason I say that stuff is because I was bringing up the point that you do not need to relate to the music to like it. I'm not trying to flame you, I'm trying to help you see why saying that rap has no talent is wrong, and that people have a right to listen to a guy farting on a drum if it suits them.

I'm personally a fan of country music so let me ge tthat out on this post right now. But when it comes to rap it has it's good and bad side. the bad side is that some of these "artists" are taking songs that have already been recoded by motown groups and whatnot and are releasing them as new. Also a lot (please note I did NOT say most or all) deal with a lot of conterversial issues such as gang violence, drugs, and abuse. That there are some of the reasons I don't like it. Add into the fact the overpowering bass and I'm ready to puke.
But on the other hand I will admit that I do like beat poetry, which is essentially of free form rap with out the overpowering music and in most cases usually has some "depth" to it's meanings. One rapper that I think was really good, because his lyrcs were meaningful, and had thought behind them was Tupac Shakur. If you really "LISTEN" to what his lyrics say he is probably one the greatest epic poets of modern society. Apparently, someone of importance thought he was a great lyricist, and poet, because a University in Cali, actually taught a class in the works of Tupac.
So to sum it all up, rap CAN actually be decent, it's just all in who you listen to and what they have to say with how the message is sent. *Now that I have put in my 2 cents, I shall step down from my soapbox*

I fail to see how rap takes musical talent, considering how most rap artists (did I say artists? I meant rappers) merely seem to sing (poorly) to some computer generated beats.

I also think that alot of rap lyrics spew out stupid messages regarding drugs, alcohol, police, women, etc.

If it's so easy then why are you not a succesful rap artist?

Just because you don't relate to a type of music does not make it something to hate. I can and do relate to a whole lotta rap. (not the whole cash money scene) But why is it that I listen to anything? I listen to everything, Metallica, Sublime, NOFX, Fear Factory, all that good stuff. Good music is good music and that should be enough for anybody.

Rap does have meaning. Tupac is a great example. Some of his songs were to make videos out of, about the large lifestyle, etc etc. Most had meaning. He didn't act like growin up in a ghetto is a good thing. I'm not in the ghetto but I'm damn close and it sucks. But after a while that's all you know.

A lot of people on these forums have no clue what it's like to grow in a place where nobody cares about you. Where you don't have enough food to eat. Where there is constant violence and hustling. When thats all you know how to do after a while thats all you want to do. It's the game.

This mainly effects minorities. But that's a whole different subject.
