Oh, and I'm sure slipknot is the ****

A lot of you guys who hate rap, seem to have your opinions influenced by a lot of the stuff you see on t.v.

I means, if you look at eminem, he has talent, but the majority of his songs are more of a comedy.

Back in the day, eminem had some good serious stuff when he was still underground. He acts all crazy and funny now that he is mainstream for the money, he really isn't showing his true talent.

And you should listen to some underground, it's "true" hip-hop.

Rap actually does take talent, but probably not as much as rock. I like rap, and rock. I have great respect for rock except for the loud screaming kind and terrible lyrics. This kind of rock is angry violent and stupid in my oppinion.

        Take Slipknot for example,
A lot of their songs are quite good but others are just angry crap.

Take the song Surfacing for example, which says,

        F*ck it all
        F*ck this world
F*ck everything that you stand for
        Don't exist, don't exist
        Don't ever judge me.....

I would much rather hear about blunts, 40's and b*tches, than some of the crap in loud screaming rock.

          "F*ck the world"

This statement has different meaning for rap and rock.

Rap. When rappers (ones that have songwriting talent) say this it's because nobody cares (cared) about them. Where they come from society didn't care so they just said "f*ck it" and went along with all the slangin and violence and it's still like that today.

Rock. When they say it it's mainly to seem rebelious. Most big rock stars, slipknot for example, have nothing besides their scene to say it. They didn't and don't have it bad. It's just what they do to sell some records.

Wow, do you really know the members of Slipknot on a personal basis to know their lives that well? Ya, thought not... You can't really judge how hard a persons life is anyway. Besides, a persons musical talent shouldn't be based on how hard their life is/was.

Well, i'll just state my opinion, not slamming anyone or anything.

I don't like the music, seems a little repetative to me. The beats i mean. I can hardly understand what the rappers are saying as well. What i could understand was a little too simple for me.

READING Eminem's lyrics made me laugh though, i'll give rappers that. That guy's a joke.

Now i like ALL kinds of tunes, but i just can't stomach that stuff.

I know there's different strokes for different folks, i just thought the guy was asking what I thought about rap. So i told him.

I don't care if someone else wants to listen to it.

I like both rap and rock.

I think it takes talent to do both. Look at what Eminem does for example. His rapping style is rather fast, not as fast as...say..Fu-Shnickens, but pretty fast and complex. If another person doesn't speak as eloquently or clearly than he would not be as good at it. Therefore, to me that says he has a "talent." Anyway, my fav is Everlast. To me, he's been something of a pioneer in both genres. He started out as a hip hop rapper in 1990 underneath the teaching of Ice-T when the rest of the world was all MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice. Then moved from there to House of Pain and did the ethnic rap thing (white-Irish-Muslim rappers...who knew?) In 1992 House did a collaboration with Helmet on the Judgement Night soundtrack (which, I blelieve was one of the first ever pairings of rock artists with rappers) and this ushered in a lot of what new rock is today (Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc.) Rage Against The Machine was another pioneer for this musical area as well.

Anyway, now Everlast has moved into the "Whitey Ford" period of his music and does rap, acoustic rock, blues, electric rock, and folk music. His work is really hard to nail down to one style and showcases he has a multitude of "talents." While some people may not like his music, and that's cool, it does prove that at least he is a traditional rapper from way back with other musical talents (sing, play guitar, rap). I think both rap and rock have a very important role in society just like all other types of music: choices. Listen to what you like, but just remember everyone is different and will like/respect different things.
