5 points for our friend here, he is correct. Rather than asking on a paintball website, try doing a search!

trance just descibes the "trancy" or light nature of the music. It's whimsicle and floaty feel was first made to take you on a journy with the music. It won't put you into a trance if you listen to it, but if you listen to some of it long enough your mind will take over and you will start to get lost in your own thoughts. People often listen to it while tripping on illegal drugs to "highten" the experience. But please don't do drugs.

It's great music to wind down to after a stressful day. It's a spinoff of "techo" music but has now become it's own genre. Just like techno now has. There are arguments of just how to classify "Electronica" or "Electronic" music, because there are so many types. But you are safe in assumeing that there are these basic types:

Techno: your usual happy music i.e. mortal combat soundtrack stuff

        Trance: as described above

House: heard most often on the radio or in most clubs. Unlike techno which usually dosent have vocals, house can have lots.

Acid Bass: very bassy stuff. boom boom boom boom. very heavy house type music.

Drum & Bass: my personal favorite. Very precise and skilled beats with scratching/vocals/ you name it. The beat is what makes D&B what it is.

Jungle: used to describe the often tribal feel. First brought about by a great many Brazillian, Cuban and Spanish artists that entered the D&B scene back in the 90's. Sometimes confused with D&B.

Those are the main basice types of "Electronic" music. There could be probably 15 others but don't bother. hope this helps.

I hate house, positively and absolutely. Trance on the other hand is probably one of my favorite genres. But you can't forget Gabber, now can you.

Yeah Industrial, I forgot about that. That's another one that melds closely with House I would think.

If I'm off on my assesments above please don't hesitate to correct me.

I think industrial is a little futher away from those groups. Industrial is more of a traditional song format. It also has more actual instruments. It gets it's roots from metal and early eighties under ground electronica. Where as the others are traced to the main steam eighties pop-electronica along with hip-hop and dance.

I got messanine(sp) from Massive attack. I'm into Nine Inch Nails, Chemlab, Front242 and KMFDM. In that order.

Industrial is a crossover between Goth and Metal, with much more synth. The electronica variants are EBM, Darkwave and Noise (Yeah, it's actually called noise). Notable EBM/Darkwave bands are Covenant and VNV Nation, while notable Industrial bands are NIN, VAC, Rammstein, and you can make a good argument for Static-X being an indutrial band, not Nu-Metal. Lot's of crossover between industrial, Nu-Metal and Rap Metal. If it's heavy & gothy, it's industrial, if it's dark, gothy & electronic it's Darkwave, if it's got a beat too, it's EBM.

I think what stated before classifies industrial better only because industrials been around longer than goth.
