    Linux Help

I know there are some linux gurus here.

For the first time, I have installed linux AS well as windows on the same hard drive / computer. Is there anyway I can retrieve files from my Windows partition / disk area in Linux? I really want my MP3s!!

    Any help would be appreciated.

Same. I'm confused... I'm almost sure they are on the same partition. In fact I'm sure.

Sorry, never had them on the same drive before, and I suck at linux anyway.

It's mandrake 8.2 if that helps.

          su
          mkdir /mnt/vfat
          mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/vfat

access your windows partition through /mnt/vfat

Oh, and get FreeBSD 4.6 instead.

EMail me and I will try to help you ...

Its a matter of mounting the windows parition so that the linux filesystem can access it and then copying them to a spot on your linux drive ... usually your home (~/) directory ...

If you can get into a command line ... run the following and write down the info ..

            1) cat /etc/fstab
            2) mount

this way I can tell if your system is already seeing your windows partition ... if not then there a couple more steps needed.

I agree... but FreeBSD is free. Well... I guess you could get OpenBSD 'free' as well but...

Xmms is one of my favs. Pretty much standard w/ most new distros ... looks and works just like WinAMP if you are familiar with it.
