Traxxas T Max... whatcha think of 'em?

    Hey AOers,
Yeah, yeah I know... do a search. I found this.... http://www.automags.org/forums/showt...light=r%2Fc+rc

But it doesn't answer my ??? on the T Max... and it's a bit old.

I know there are a few of you guys that are into RC Cars, Trucks and whatnot... I've been really thinkin' bout getting into the Gas Powered Trucks. Really concidering the Traxxas TMax. I've owned and driven electric cars and trucks (from Toys R Us, and radio shack). And even built my own Gas powered RC Helicopter (with the help of my Bro). So I understand the workings of those small engines

Just want to know your input on the T Max... how durable they are, most common probs, basically your experiences in them. Thanks.

    My friend has an E-Maxx...

I drove it a few months ago and all I can say is WOW..

I am only used to driving cicuit buggies and asphalt cars...

    But this thing was smooth....

It was great until once i took it outside along and forgot to pu hte annetenna up.. and it was in 2nd gear.. it took off - went out of range and kept going wihtout my control.. it took a head first dive into a creek full of mud.. He made me clean it all off in a bathtub....

Oh did I mention it DID NOT have a body on it? thats right.. exposed engines.... I was pissed at myself.

i've had a Traxxas Rustler and Traxxas Nitro Rustler. tons of fun. but for me to tell you which one to get i need to know what you want to do. do you want speed? do you want to be able to jump? do you want to race? if you want speed go with a rustler, if youw ant to jump go with a t-maxx. rustlers cannot jump worth crap. i was never able to land jumps with mine very much and i think im a decent drive(did jump it 22 feet once ) the e/t-maxx trucks are probably one of the most durable rc cars made. AWESOME for jumping. if you got any questions or anything send me a message on AIM or a PM(or just ask on here, and hopefully i will remember to check back) later

From what I've seen, T-Maxx'es are like paintball markers. People can't seem to leave them stock! Eventually, I'd like to build up a T-Maxx, but it's gonna be an insane project.

I just want to play with 'em... not planning on racing and stuff. There's a park close to my house that's perfect for jumps and straight runs(with lots of bumps). I pretty much want to see how high I can launch the truck and how fast I can run it on uneven dirt/grassy areas. Maybe run it up and down my street to annoy the dogs So T Maxx is my first choice so far, unless someone can advise me on something better.

EMaxx are cool. but I want to lean away from the electric trucks and take on the challenge of the Nitro burning, grass ripping, Speed racing, noisy T Maxx . Since I stopped working on my rc chopper so many years ago, I'm missing the smell of Nitro fuel burning in the morning and the high pitch whining of those small engines... I think working on the T Maxx will bring back some of those memories without the cost and stress of maintaining an RC Chopper.

As for upgrades... yeah I'm planning to keep it stock for at least 6 months then try to convince my wife to let me drop more $$$ on it. This hobby will be a lot like my paintball obsession... little will stay stock for long. I already see what hop ups I want to do and I don't even have the truck yet! Looks like I'll have everything running in a couple of months.

                  T is for Turbo

Just wondering, could you put a tiny turbo on one of those? That, my friends, would be the coolest thing EVER.

Turbo??? You talking about NOS in an RC? Not sure if it needs it or if it could be done... running the engine lean would give it plenty of speed but kills the engine sooner. There are mods that can be done to increase the T Maxx speed to 50+ miles per hour! I think you can get a small 10gram NO Charger from a cooking shop (used for whipcream dispensers). A small NOS setup in these truck would be interesting to see (and we can watch the engine ment after the first use of the NOS)

Found some vids of the T Max in action:
