This is kinda old news, either way I love the way this web comic interprets the situation.

Maybe someone can PM me why my sig was tampered

I think the term we are both looking for is "nessisary evil". There simply is not a better choice.

For those that are knocking Stu. You need to come to the realization that there are things in this world that you may not want to believe. Your government (whomever they are) is likely doing things that a wrong and immoral. What I'm saying is please don't wander around thinking that there is no room for improvement.

When people mention "Hasn't Microsquash been prosecuted by the US government?" I say who's gone to jail or been fined. What have they changed in the manner of the way they operate?

Maybe it's not a big deal. There is Linux, and that is what the hackers, phreakers, and crackers will switch to when the time comes.

Macs and PCs have nearly identical hardware. They may use a RISC processor (BONUS!!)... but that's where the similarities end for the most part - everything else is minor.

Replace a few controllers, use an x86 chip... maybe couple other things... and you got a PC.

But... a RISC chip in general is a wonderful thing to have. Clock for clock, a RISC will whoop an x86 for most things... but x86s currently have substantially higher clock speeds to make up for it at comparatively good prices.

I personally LOVE Macs (I like their OS and the way they operate) - but don't personally own one yet. I 'almost' got a PowerComputing Mac clone in the past, but built an AMD box instead to save money. I had an LC-III back in the day that I used to program on - but that's old school. I'd like to get an XServer and/or a PowerBook when I can afford one.

Well my point is... I love Apple and Macs and all - used to be one of those PC bashing Mac Zealots when I was 13... but I disagree with your statement.

pffh, for all you that say this isnt gonna happen, go out and get the newsweek that this was written up in, you will be hard pressed to find any similarities between the two stories, the one i posted and the one thats in newsweek. microsoft puts such a positive spin on it that it would seem stupid to not go out and get the new chip right away, if it came out in newsweek like it was written in wastedyouth.org it would get shut down right away. take a look at the governments new thing TIPS (for all you who dont know what it is: http://www.americanfreepress.net/07_...wants_you.html ) (note the fact that TIPS is also being pushed by Ashcroft)

now think how idiotic a plan like that would have looked before say sept.11, even now it seems like a terrible idea, but last i heard it was well on its way to starting testing, and im sure it will continue on to a national level regardless of test results. i mean think about TIPS objectively, citizens spying on other citizens, reporting to the government, everyone looking over their shoulder, thinking theyre being watched, i mean its right out of 1984 by Orwell. If the government can support that than as far as im concerned this is small fries, with micrsoft spinning it and the potential for the government to say its all in the name of national security (hey look that guys got anarchist cookbook on his comp, lets go arrest him), and all of it being pushed as what patriotic america wants and needs, its only a matter time.

edit: i re-read the article on TIPS and it says it started in august, so it has probably already begun.

Oh, No!!! Not a computer conspiracy article.
Face it, if the government wants something, they can get it, no problem. Just think of the programs the gov/military has access to, all the NSA top secret stuff that will probly be released to the public in like 2013. I mean come on, it won't be microsoft doing that stuff (even if it is made up), it will be the gov. doing it Through microsoft. Anyways, personal privacy isn't all it's cracked up to be. If the police or FBI needed to see my comp, why should i care, i have nothing to hide...

Give me a break, Microsoft is "the enemy" and little benevolent Mac is not. Give me a break. Who gives a s *hit, Microsoft is being "sued" just to make people happy, nothing is going to come out of it (substantial anyways). anyways, Like the gov is gonna put micro out of bussiness when probly 80% of thier computers are pentium based.

I think someone has been taking more Focusin than their mommy says they should.

Personally, I think the whole Microsoft: Bow before your new king thing is getting a little out of hand. I can honestly say that if it got that wierd, I would quit using my computer and break out my type-writter. I use Microsoft stuff everyday at home and at school. Yea, it's got some problems, but so does my pillow. You don't see me protesting my pillow now do you? I just think alot of this is an overreaction to things. You act like getting free MP3s and files of the like is a right or something. We all knew from the Getgo that everything in life will cost money at one point. I bet 30 years ago no one would think of paying for water in a bottle. Just calm down. It's not the end of the World if Bill Gates can look at your porn too.

sadly your missing the larger idea here python, and its even been dumbed down for you. i dont care about bill gates seeing my porn, i care more about the fact that if this article is a good indication of what the internet will be like in ten years, there will be no porn to look at, forget trying to hide it on my comp. and mr.T what you had to say only loosely relates to whats being discussed here.

Whoah! you had one too? I personally still have both of mine and a ton of software, but I don't use it any more.

What's really scary is the following: During the anti-trust suit vs Microsoft microsoft offered to donate x number of platforms to schools as part of a deal. Sounds good at first, but if you think about it how is that settlement preventing Microsoft from monopolizing? Think really hard on that one.

The buisness practices of microsoft wouldn't bother me as much if they actually wrote clean code. bah. Oh and they don't give all the information that they're supposed/claim to give to 3rd party developers.
