    I don't understand moutain bikers.....

My neighbor just bought a brand new Specialized moutain bike for, get this, $2400!!!!!!! Sure, it has dual suspension and disc brakes but $2400??? You could buy a nice, allbeit used, street bike/dirt bike for that. I where the fun factor is. You beat the crap out of yourself to climb some god forsaken mountain and all you have to show for it are sore muscles, cuts, bruises, and hard time getting excited....

      yeah I agree

but you must realize, people have there things.

If you didn't notice, there are people who have/still play paintball who think its nutty to pay over $1000 for a paintgun, but we still do.

Very true, my brother bought a 1400$ trek mountain bike..and trust me it's worth every penny. Just as Shartley said.. don't think other people are crazy for spending mad amounts of money on "their" hobby. My dad's cousin, my second uncle, spends about 8000$ a year on his hobby. RC Airplanes. He builds them out of his basment, has a mock-up airfield on his property include a 1200 ft runway He also has a 1/8 scale f16 with a working gas turbine engine (runs on a weedeater motor) flies about 100 mph.. he's only flown it once and that was for about 45 seconds. He spent almost 3000$ on it. It sits on a stand collecting dust..but you know what. It makes him happy Thats what the Cost of a hobby is..

yes, i think its nutty to spend $1000 on paintball stuff.

but think of this, you can get probably one of the BEST mountain bikes for that amount, or you could get a used stock 125 dirtbike.

I would never spend that much on a mountain bike.

i did spend $3100 on a dirtbike. but then it got stollen. i learned my lesson. the lesson was that people are (insert bad words here)

I love mountian bikin. Just like in paintball you are out in the wilderness. I would never spend that much on a bike but i'm not that hard core. I just like the feeling of makin it through a really tough drop or flyin around a corner leanin really far so your almost scrapin the ground.

I'm pretty thrifty with my money. I could buy an Extreme and it wouldn't put too much of a dent in my finances. I choose, however, to spend my money on other things.

Here is two things to think about....

              1) In the long run we are dead and we don't get to take it with us.

              2) If I had pulled money out of stock (recently) and put it into an Extreme I'd actually be AHEAD of where I am at the moment.

So really I should have bought an Extreme! By the way all of you should buy Cannondale mountain bikes so that their darn stock will go up!

I dunno if I'm the onlu guy that grew up with $100-$150 Huffies and what not. $2500 for a bike just struck me as odd.

                    heh

I used to dirt jump with a iron MURRAY.

murray was like, even lower quality than huffy.

it was a iron chassis, and I guess it was pretty rusty inside, cause the rear end completly fell off after I landed one jump.

No, you were not. My Dad payed $35 for my bike when I was a kid and we had to fix it.

I however don't see as how that is relevent.

Mine has about $2800 into it. It is soon going to be my backup bike as I am looking for a frame to build a new bike. The is a huge difference in a $200 bike vs. a $2000 bike.
