    Broke my PS2 <<<HELP

    Hi,
I have a PS2 that my friend gave me. He has 3 of them and 2 of them he "grounded". Which I guess means he put them on the carpet and played them and the static electricity got to them and they don't work now.

If anyone else has experienced this and has an easy fix or a story about it; I would like to know.

    Thanks,

if it hasn't been taken apart yet you can probably get sony to fix it. You just have to be ready to prove that you've only used sony products with it (IE sony controller and memory card)

I think there's a number in the manual.

Check online at SCEA. I had a problem with my PS2, called them, (its faster and free, e-mail will take too long) gave them my info, and they e-mailed me an invoice to print. I ended up sending it for free repair (the shipping is not free though) and it works great. My roommate did the same thing and his was free too. Just a heads up.

Eh what's it doing? I've fixed our PS2 3 times now.

yeah, don't stick it on carpet unless you have an ESD cord on it.

          fix time and mod chips?

Marek>> How long did it take to get yours back from them?

Other question...do modchips really work? Are they a pain to install?

Yes, but if you don't know what you're doing, and not any sort of good with soldering I wouldn't even attempt it. My local shop wanted 150 dollars to get it modded.

Yes, but 150, was the installation cost too. They take a lot of risk in messing something up.

True. But figure they could buy the part for like $2, build a programmer for $7, and make the chips themselves. I'm not saying they shouldn't charge that much, I'm just impressed with their profit margin! I might have to get into that for the low low price of $100!

                    chips

So what about repairing the PS2 if it has a mod chip in it. You doubt they would do it for free if a 3rd party accesory was added huh?

                      My god, $150?

I got my PS modded for $25, with installation. $20 for the chip, $5 for installation, and if he screwed up your playstation, then you were screwed.

He only screwed up one or two in the 30+ I know he installed. The guy used to live in the dorms with me my freshman year of college.

                      Risky? A little. But cheap.

Hey speaking of PS2. Anyone have any reccomendations on a good game? I've beaten every game I have (except armored core 2: another age, and state of emergency). Just got onimushra 2, freaking awesome if you like oni 1. Any ideas for a good, tough game? I'm getting sick of buying games and beating em too fast.

I'll have to check out NHL 2K3. I'm partial to the ncaa 2001/ madden 2001 type of series. I like to scout players in college and graduate em to my pro team. Beat GTA 3, and I beat some dyanasty warriors. Not sure if it was 3 or not. both were excellent games though. I'm definately going ot have to try GTA Vice City when it comes out. I'm also looking forward to Devil May Cry 2 and hitman 2.

Ok, I don't work for Visual Concepts anymore (the producers of NHL 2k3) but I'm really damn excited about this game. When I left the company (for school) the fighting engine hadn't been implemented yet, but it is one of the best sports games that I've played (and I've played too many for my own good =P) Anyway I would really recommend everyone try it out, even if you don't like Hockey, it's a great game to play by yourself and even better when you can talk trash with your buddies.

Shooter if you like graduating players, NFL 2k3 and NCAA football 2k3 are connected. You can graduate your class from NCAA to NFL 2k3 (transfered through memory card).

Another very difficult game is Stuntman, it took a group of very experience gamers about a month with about 1:30 a day and some weekends to beat it (1 hr lunch breaks and 2 15 minute breaks). I found the game to get kinda repetative, but it's pretty damn hard if you're looking for osmething challenging
