    Installing a PS in car?

hey, has anyone tried installing anykind of game console into a car? This one guy at my school has one of those small PS1s with a built in screen. He keeps the machine in the slidding compartment and installed a different screen at where the passenger airbag is.

Now, here is my situation. My friend says he would sell me his old school Play Station for 20 bux including all the games. Anyone know of anyway of hooking up that? What about Xbox ?

If I were you i'd just go to a pawn shop and pick up a new style ps1. I belive the redesign uses less power. As for an xbox, you'd probably need more power in your car.

OR i could be making up stuff cause I know jack about this subject. Just trying to use common sence, but I have no experience.

Somone at my school has an acura integra. In the middle of the dash is a small LCD screen, hooked up to a PSII. The PSII is located in the back of the car, ontop of the subs (yes, probably a stupid place for it).

I have an DC/AC converter, with 2 plugs that hooks up to the car. You could get one of those. I've hooked a ton of stuff up to it, including a small tv. I dont know if it would run the tv and something else though.

Heat..how expensive? It doesn't seem like it should be that bad.

            5" Color LCD screen -- $150 ??
            PS 2 -- $199
            Power Inverter -- $50

I have no clue about those prices hahahahah. So I'm not sure.

Clarion makes the deck with the 5" or 7" LCD that folds out and up that you can hook up a DVD/game console to. Like the one guy in Fast and the Furious had in his car right before the street race at the beginning.

Of course those head units are like $1500+

You can always get one of these and then get a power inverter and get it all hooked up.

wouldn't be that expensive if you did it yourself. One of the reasons it gets so expensive is that alot of times people get custom dash panels to hold the display. (in front of the passenger seat, behind the headrest, dropped from the cieling, etc)

A bud of mine got the LCD I linked above, mounted it to a painted box he made out of plywood and put it in the back of his van. Now when him and his family are on road trips they can play games/watch TV/movies.

              Pretty cheap too..
Sure it's not the best looking thing but hey, it does the job.

Gimp, where'd u get the adpater?

Actually the screens are alot more expensive then that.. the cheapest I've seen was 300$ for a 4.25" screen
ps2 199$ at hte time we spent 300$ on it
                  power inverter 50$ about right
A tv tuner... cause you can't just plug up the ps2 to the screen... Well you could, but that depended on wether the manufaturer though you'd just use it with a ps2. In our case they didn't.
And then mounting and wireing hardware. Not to mension 3 days from 2pm to 8pm

Cause if you're gonna do that.. ya gotta install a set for 12" and amp.. a new headunit for the sound.

It was a very learning experiance... if I was to do it again.. I would charge for my time and my poor fingers.
