Have you used a TI-89 before? Thats what its all about!

I can find out the Proper Fraction without long or syntheic division:

          (x-4)

          and get:

          -8

My teacher last year told me that I had to get a different calculator because the 89 could do anything and everything we were doing in that class. Then he forgot all about it.

Gotta love the "solve" function, eh?

The 93 is the one that has the larger screen and a QWERTY keyboard, if that helps any. The 89 is shaped like a normal calculator.

i heard they have some problems....

could somebody with an 89 explain all the different modes in menus 2 and 3(f2 and f3 i think) and how to use them? i'm not any good with instruction manuals so i need some help.

oh yeah. 93s are not legal on standardized tests because of the keyboard.....

                        Sure...

What you'll need right now is Solve, and viewing answers in alternate forms.

                        First...

                        If I type in 4/32

The calculator will output 1/8 Simply because this is the simplified version.

If you press the Green Diamond Button in the upperleft hand corner before hitting enter, the answer will be .125

So when it gives you fractions and you want decimals, press the Green Diamond.

                        Solve function

If we have a basic algebraic expression:

                        133 = 4x + 5

we can solve for x by using the following steps:

Press F2 to bring up the Algebra menu.

Select option 1 by either pressing enter or 1

type 133=4x+5,x (the 'comma x' means solve for X)

Close the function with a paren )

                        you should see this:

                        solve(133=4x+5,x)

Of course the answer will come out to be 32. This was a simple example. This works for any single variable algebraic equation.

                        Enjoy your 89!
