    Odd Computer problem (CD drive)

Put a CD in.....Nothing happens for about 5 seconds. Then it ejects the CD. It's not reading it or something. Any one know what I could do to fix this?

Creative Labs 52X if it helps any.

Try to disable autorun for that cd-rom ... its should be under my_computer right click on the drive and select properties ... something like that.

Try that and see if the problem persists.

Just one CD or every one you try? If it's just one CD, maybe it's damaged in some way.

Again -- try turning off auto-run ... that flashing of the light usually means the drive is trying to access the cd.

If you turn off auto-run it wont try to access the cd till you open it in a window. If something is wrong with auto-run it may not detect the auto-run file on the disk and kick it out.

I've had this happen a couple of times on me.

CD-ROM drives are high wear parts.

                Sometimes they just die.
How old is it? There should be a date of manufacture on the drive.

These things are so mass produced they have a crappy lifespan.

If it's still under warranty, contact the place of purchase and/or the manufacturer. If not, you may need to find a computer store in the area and pick up a new drive. It shouldn't run you more than $50.

Have you tried using a Cd-rom/Cd/DVD lense cleaner? It's a cd with a soft brush on it. You may have a lot of lent trapped in the eye and it can't read anything anymore. Has is ever been cleaned? Do you eat, drink or smoke around your pc? If you do ANY of those..I'd suggest cleaning the lense first. You can get the lense cleaning cd from walmart for like 5$.

CD Roms are cheap! Just go buy a new one... With all the pain this one has caused you, it deserves to die by the sledgehammer in your driveway.

Try a baseball bat, that fixed mine.

Or just get a new one, they are all so cheap at www.newegg.com, especailly the liteons. Not to mention they work great.
