    Best movie(s) of all time

    It's that time again...

for a best movie/movies of all time thread!

    So let's start the bidding.

What is it going to be? Not many people can honestly pick a greatest of all time.. that is much to complex for a person to handle. So we will break it down into categories.

    Comedy
    Suspense
    Action/Adventure
    Thriller/Horror

are the basic catergories. Then there are your Westerns, you Kung-Fu, your Euro-trash Single-White-Female-ish movies, etc etc.

So start throwing out some and let see what we can get. Don't forget to make comments!

Here are a few to get you going:

Fight club (sorry but that is SO obvious) for Action/Adv.

I liked Arlington Rd. for a suspense thriller.. but not best of all tiem that is for sure...

One of my favorite supspens movies of all time was by Alfred Hitchcock(sp).. and I forget the name... but it was htis guy.. and he put this bomb in his basement to blow up his wife becasue he though she was cheating on him.. and these muggers break in and tie him up in the basement.. with hte bomb.. and all day he is sitting watchin hte clock on hte bomb tick.. oh it is a great movie...

    Anyone know what that is?

Anyways.. I wanna hear what you all think.

How can you have a "best Movie of All Time" thread without a drama category?

Drama's are THE best movies of all time.

          Citizen Kane? Hello?

Or, more recently, movies like A Beautiful Mind? Man Without a Face? Dead Poet's Society? One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?

These are the "Greatest" movies of all time. Comedies/action/etc come and go, but drama's are good over all time. Citizen Kane was made in 1941, and it's still an amazing movie.

Here's a good list of the Best Movies of All Time though:

Thordic: Citizen Kane has a plot hole a mile wide in the first 5 minutes.

The movie revolves around 2 things, the fact he died alone, and what his last word was. How in the heck do theyknow his last word was 'Rosebud' if he died alone?

            Best movies:

            Drama: The Usual Suspects
            Comedy: Grosse Point Blank
            Action: Die Hard

            Historical: Braveheart
            Animation: Akira
            Western: Lonesome Dove miniseries
Space Opera: Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back
Based on true story: Blackhawk Down (Yes, I know the movie spelled Blackhawk as Black Hawk, they were wrong)

I agree with forget the categories... Here's my list
the entire Evil Dead Trilogy: "Evil Dead", "Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn", and "Army of Darkness"
"The Bride of Chucky" (just flat out funny)
                  "Dolls" (classic bad horror)
"Leprechaun" (a movie with a midget gone bad is always good)
                  "Seven"
                  "Citizen Kane"
                  "The Green Mile"
                  "Albino Aligator"
                  "Godfather"
                  "American History X"
"Animal House" (it's on every frat guys favorite movie list)
                  "Tombstone"
"Brain Donors" (remake of a Marx Brothers' Comedy "Duck Soup")
                  "Duck Soup" (Classic Marx Brothers)
                  "Silence of the Lambs"
                  "Young Frankenstien"
                  "Robin Hood: Men in Tights"
"Blazing Saddles" (How can you not find guys sitting around a campfire eatting beans and farting not funny?!?)
"Terror Toons" (I just rented it and it's a must buy for anyone who likes poorly made horror films. It's so bad it makes "Army of Darkness" look like an Oscar cailber movie. Plus I think the entire thing was done by a guy with a high tech video camera and basic computer editing software. Truly the best B horror flick I've ever seen)

That's pretty much it for my favorite movies... There are others that I like, but these are at the front of my movie library.

I can't deal with this category thing. Its too complicated and requires too much brainwork. I'll just list some

                    The Shawshank Redemption
Glory (Morgan Freeman really should get an Oscar)
                    BraveHeart
                    Tora, Tora, Tora!!!
Gladiator (Russel Crow should have gotten an Oscar..twice)
                    Chariots of Fire
                    Apocalypse Now

But the best of all time is definalty THE GODFATHER
                    Greatest movie ever. Period.

Here's what everyone has listed for Sci-Fi: Vanilla Sky, Minority Report, Star Wars Episodes 4-6 (The Empire Strikes Back is clearly the best), T2 (uh...OK. To each his own.), and Aliens (see last).
But the best SciFi movie (and also one of the best movies ever) is, the one that started it all, "2001: A Space Odyssey" In my humble opinion, its the best Kubrick movie.

But as I read the previous posts, I'm deeply concerned an disappointed. Some of you have no taste (Fast and the Furious...I'm sorry was that out loud ) I notice that no one has put my favorite movie up. Tisk, tisk, tisk

                    HEAT
This movie is simply about two people: Pacino and DeNiro. True, it has an incredibly strong cast (Tom Siezmore, Ashley Judd, Val kilmer, and a certain 12 year old girl named Natalie Portman). It has a great plot and some great action scenes (The bank shootout) but it comes down to the two leads: Pacino and DeNiro. Both are capable leading a movie to greatness but the two of them together (much less as adversaries) are absolutely fantastic. This movie is possibly the MOST WELL ACTED MOVIE IN HISTORY. And the end scene, at the airport... I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen it, so I'll just say "Superb". Everytime that movie is on, I stop whatever I'm doing and watch it.
                    BrockSampson "I see dead people..."

and once I see them, I make sweet, sweet love...
