i just got Battle field 1942 and its not impresive so far.

i have a 1.4 ghz Gateway with 128 MB ram. I think i have a TNT 3rd accelerator.

First off it takes me about 30 min to get into a game (no exageration).

When i get in the colors are like negative art. The entire map is purple/black.

I have tried adjusting my video settings and i can't get it to work.

Any advise would make me happy.

BTW i tried the update and it didn't download, the bar started going and stoped

download it from the homepage its a very buggy game so far so give it some time i spose

You need a new video card and some more ram

Yeah it wouldnt run with my old card and thenI got a GeForce and it worked perfectly

My problem is that it dumps me out to Windows constantly. I'm about ready to take the game and use it for a frisbee.

Anyone know what the best but cheapest video card is? I can't afford a geforce 4 right now so dont suggest it.

I also get dumped into windows constantly.

I'd get a Geforce2 TI at newegg for $63. I have one and all the newer games work. Its a pretty good card.

you could get a geforce4 ti4200 for around $120-$150

Or a Radeon 8500 for a little less.

There are Geforce 3's at newegg for $80.

I'm pretty sure bf1942 says on the box that it requires a vid card with hardware T&L. Yep sure does. The TNT series does not have hardware T&L.

Don't get a GF4 MX, they are pretty worthless. If you get anything, get a ti4200 either 64mb or 128mb. Those at least have the full feature set. And do yerself a favor and drop at least 512 of ram in there.

bf1942 is a great game. It's tons of fun, tho it's much better at a LAN where there is massive bandwidth avalible (100 mbit is massive vs internet bandwidth).
