Is it just me or does it seem like the authorities should be listening more to criminologists and not Chief Moose? Also, I heard the Pentagon was thinking of tasking 2 or more Predator UAV to Maryland/Virginia etc. Anyone heard anything about that?

hey yeah I live in richmond and I have gotten the last two days off from school cuz of this sniper; and the part on the criminologists, they have listened to them and pretty much what they have said is, "we don't know, the sniper does not have any specific pattern to the attacks" so they are pretty much useless,
well thats my rant
and I do wish we got another day outa school

Re: Maryland Sniper
Of course, they could be up there already, and you could be sitting there looking right at them, and you'd never know it.Originally posted by Remington

Well i've been reading a few tom clancy books recently so maybe i'm just being paranoid, but i've got a serious worry: What if it's not a he, but a they?
The idea that a group of guys doing this as a terrorist type thing scares me. Hopefully i'm wrong, but you never know.
for those of you who are of the paranoid type DONT read Patriot games.

I agree completely. We have no idea who it is!
it could be anyone or any group; these are just my paranoid hypothesis's of what it could be; (these are just my thoughts and opinions, don't take them seriously)
1. serial killer- could be
2. al-quaida terrorist cell
3. hey Bush kept on talking about war with Iraq, who's to say that they haven't taken the fight to us(on a small scale)
we know soo little about this "sniper" that our ignorance is what really scares me,
what do we know; he shoots a .223 round; possibly drives a white van;
and thats it,
well anyways be careful out there people

If they have been doing forensic testing on the bullets then they could determine if it was a group or not. You can test and tell exactly what gun a bullet has come from, only thing they wouldn't know about would be a group of people using the same gun... but who would use the same gun?

Like Joker said, sniper's always work in pairs. One being the shooter, the other being the spotter. The shooter sits on his bum & waits for the shot. The spotter watches the shooter's back & well, spots stuff for him. Any of you guys who have experience in the sort of thing, feel free to elaborate.I'm way too old for this ****.Comment

Minimag; the problem with typing recovered rounds is that, especially smaller types, they fragment on impact. It is much easier, as well as far more accurate, to type from brass.
Yes, snipers normally work in pairs. My personal belief; this guy is alone. He may belong to a group, but he works alone. He is a glory hound. He has some rudimentary skills; however, he hasnt taken a shot over 100 yds yet. If you fire at all, that isnt a long shot.
You wont find any brass either; this guy uses a bolt action. Also, as far as UAVs go; they cant see into buildings or under heavy brush. This guy will use that to his advantage. He will take shots from a vehicle, from under bridges or awnings, wherever he is protected. He is smart, but he will be caught. Eventually someone will see him. The sad thing is, this is gonna cause a spinoff of related crimes throughout the country.
I really wouldnt be surprised if he is a cop/fireman/EMT, or something along those lines.Comment

Somebody answer me this:
If this person or persons has had this level of success at shutting down an area out pure fear, and if the supposition is made that they are foriegn type terrorists, then why isn't it occurring in other major cities?
Apparently it's an effective tactic being employed to keep a rather large population in abject fear of being shot 24/7. Schools are closed, sporting events are moved off site, outdoor activites of all kinds are being cancelled.
If this was a foreign national or terrorist plot, my guess is they'd have been doing this in a lot of other places at the same time.
I have to think this is one lone whacko out there with more than a few corroded wires in his circuitry.
And this guy is NOT a sniper. Please, with a scoped AK or Ar, anyone, and I mean anyone with a days practice could easily make the same shots this guy has.

the middle-school student he shot was just wounded also. a Trained sniper wouldn't go for anything except a killing shot, unless that was his intention to wound him...
...dunno why he'd do that tho.

He has a little heart I hope.
My thoughts are, this guy is trying to prove something, he's tried and tried to prove it before through words, but no one listened, now he wants to prove it through actions that require extreme measures. He is smart, so are terrorists, these people are not stupid.
This guy is going to slow down, he is going to go to a slow pace eventually, to lessen the likelihood of someone seeing him, I'm sure people have seen him already, but never realized he was the sniper. If I was part of the police, I would let him known "We know you want something, killing and hurting innocent people is not going to help you to get that something, talk with us for what you want, we can help you, but please, do not put anymore innocent children at risk."
He is not some pyscho, he is a smart sane person, he just doesn't understand how to express his feelings.
He is a normal person, he has feelings, I don't believe he's out to hurt kids, he's out to express his feelings.

I think that it's admirable that you have that kind of compassion for this guy, and that you're trying to understand him, but Society has been brainwashed into being "understanding"
...Face the facts: this guy has shot and killed 8 people.
Someone explain to me WHY we should understand these people? Other than for the reason of Identifying these situations, and preventing them? Who gives a rat's posterior if he had a bad childhood, or was beaten when he was young? It's no excuse to end another person's life, much less terrorize the entire area, or 8 people's lives for that matter.
Multiply 8 by 10. That's a MINIMUM of how many people are going to feel this, not counting the thousands that fear for their lives. Whoever was shot and killed was someone's daughter, someone's son, someone's mother, father, brother, or sister. THEY get hurt also.
the Tarot card saying "I am God" furthers my oppinion that this guy is a psycho. Something snapped upstairs, and now he's on a killing spree. We need to grab his ***, throw him in a prison/mental institute, or give him the death penalty.
... the death penalty, i highly doubt he would get, unless they find him to be of sound mind.
