    Just got my cable modem.

Hey, like the topic says I just got my beautiful cable modem. I was just wondering what kind of download speeds any of you with cable get. To guage it against mine, please go to www.bmwfilms.com and just download one of the season 1 films. (you don't even need to finsish it, I would just like to know what you guys are running at.)

I'd suggest going to DSL Reports as I've found they've been pretty good for reporting speed, and they have 2 or 3 servers to test from too. I've got 1024+/256+ DSL and average 1200/211 according to DSLReports.

Heres what I got on the BMW Films:

      Season 1, Ambush

Enhanced version 128mg PC Download - average 20kb/sec
Media Player 62 meg PC Download - average 20kb/sec

20kb/sec seemed to be average and thats on a 1meg down/256k up DSL

            Okay.

I was mainly wanting you to d/l from bmw because places like dslreports are done with unrealistic server conditions, giving pretty optipistic readings.

I was getting roughly 350-400 KB/sec (killoBYTES), so I was wondering how that compared to other cable users.

I just got 1534kps download from cnet's website.

When I download the updates from Microsoft, the speed is unbelievable.

In the "real world" downloading from counter-strike sites, for example, I NEVER see a rate higher than 300kbs. Usually its in the 150-250kps range.

From bmwfilms.com I got 50kps. It all depends on where the server is located and how they are setup bandwidth wise. If you dont believe me check out a game like counterstrike, where its rare to find a westcoast server with pings under 150ms, where any decent eastcoast server will be well under 100ms (im in ohio)

Okay, thanks alot...seems like I am on track. I have noticed that from most places I get in the 200-250 area. I guess the bmw servers are just kind to me.
