    Got any Router reccomendations?

I'm gunna be getting a router to split my cable modem between two computers and was wondering what i should be getting.

I've seen a lot for about $50 and under. I don't want to spend very much at all. I don't need any snazzy features, just wanna be able to have reliable internet to both machines. Maybe share a printer would be nice.

    Any recomendations?

    thanks!

the router that i have is very user-friendly and easy to use. It also has a built in switch and a print server(parallel port.) It is a netgear FR114P, the fr stands for firewall router. It cost me about $100 a compusa, but it is well worth what i paid for it. The steel casing and netgear's tech support are 2 of the plus's. One last thing, tell us about your connection, things like static or dynamic IP etc.

      Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router

I've set up two home-networks with them and never had any problems. Only problem is they run about $99 in the store. I bought my second one on ebay for $52 though.

It is by far the best home router you can get. I have one at my house, no problems, no slow times, no lag times, it's just great!-)

I also have a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router. I have noticed a problem with it- my friend stepped on it, and it came apart. I had to snap the case back together, but it worked fine. This was a problem because my friend is like 200 lbs, and it's not muscle.

              Yes. For about $99.

              But also check here:
              Ebay search for Linksys Router

There are well over a dozen auctions ending today for about $40 (dont pay more than $50).

2 reasons why i wouldn't recommend a Linksys router, 1: They are made out of thin plastic and 2: When i had mine, when it was auto-configuring a capacitator exploded which rendered the router useless. Linksys told me that they wouldn't accept it back for a return, the company i bought it from said the same thing.

i'm sorry, but why do you need a "strong router" should they mke it out of stainless steel so that people can walk on them? just don't step on them or throw them on the ground and your set. mine works great.

                      satisfied(so far) linksys owner

i also have a linksys router/switch with wireless access point. no problems yet, ive had it for a year.
plastic is not an issue if you provide the proper environment.your modem is plastic(if its an external or cable/dsl modem)and thats not an issue, right?
i have heard horror stories about linksys support, i have never required it so i couldnt tell you. every linksys i know of though seems to be working properly though.(knock on wood)

if your just spliting your modem to 2-4 comps go with the Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router. Even though its not a router. Does no router commands. So its basically a switch. YOu can buy a switch or buy the fake router. Both are ok.

I would just rather have somethign that is a little stronger than my linksys's router, just in case.

This is not true at all. Unless he has bought mulitple IP's from his provider, he NEEDS a router to share internet. If he has bought multiple IP's , then you can use a switch or a hub to allow more computers to be able to use the internet(1 computer per IP)

If you are just sharing 1 IP for all of your computers, that isn't true, but if you don't want to use a router and buy more IP's from your provider you will be paying more money for those extra IP's.
