Digital Paintball AO West Coast Server

Hey all you happy gamers out there! I'm currently setting up my game server again and I had this idea of installing Half Life on it along with the Digital Paintball mod on it. Granted, the server probably won't be on 24/7 but I just wanted to see how many AOers would be interested in playing to see if it's worth my time messing with.

My idea is to maybe get a few AOers and play a few pick up games. I could even password protect it so only players who know the password may join. Password will be posted in a thread...same with IP and time it'll be up. Last time I set up the server running Half Life, I was able to host about 12-14 players. Mind you, it's a west coast server so those in the east coast might experience some lag.

I'll also have Quake3 and Quakeworld installed for all you old school gamers who love fast action, twitch reaction, , finger numbing, first person shooters! WHEW!! Say that 5 times!

It's a fairly old server so it probably can't host the newer games, but if there's an older game that you might be interested in playing online, let me know and I'll look into it.

I might be interested. I'd have to reload half-life and get the digital pb mod, but I'm game if you set it up.

Btw, represent AO and put "AO." before your screen name. For example, mine would be AO.Gibby.

I'll be on it later. Just a few requests...

-Change the freezetime to something low (2 or 3 secs)
-Edit the roundlimit and timelimit so it doesn't change maps every ten minues
-Edit the map rotation so we don't have to sit through maps like Alley and such...I reccomend maps likes wooded, sunset, hyperball, madness, and sand.

I just figured we AOers could make some suggestions, so the server pleases us best.

Will do...I'll change the configuration later on in the afternoon. As for right now, it's running the default server settings. Also, good idea...if you have any favorite maps, let me know and I'll only rotate the maps that are more popular.

Is there anything I need other than the half-life CD and the DP mod? I haven't played HL in a long time, any patches I need to get?

Well, it's always a good idea to update Half-Life as regularly as possible, and there is one patch for DPB (I don't know if it is required or not). Other than that, you should be ready to go.

As for my favorite maps, look at the ones in my post...if I think of any more, I will list 'em. Thanks for the server, it is too hard to find a decent one now.

Just wondering, are there any server mods for DPB that allow for votes on the map change, and things of that nature? If so, I would support getting one of those.

Yes, definitely get the update to Half Life. I believe it's version 4.1.1.0 now? If you don't want to use the updater, you can go to the following site to download the patch:

I will look into the admin mod for HL and see about setting it up. The admin mod allows players to vote for new maps, extend time, kick people out, etc. I will also look into the anti-cheat stuff so give me time and hopefully I can get it running smoothly again.

You missed us Kai...about an hour and a half ago...there were about 8 people playing! It was fun...I was able to play a few and some of the maps are interesting. I've yet to tweak it but since no one is on right now, maybe now is the best time to do it. Name me the bigger maps and I'll delete them from the map rotation.

Btw, how was your ping to it?
