Windows Media Player does .avi's... I'm pretty sure RealPlayer will. But you want something that doesn't suck... Check http://www.downloads.com
I'm way too old for this ****.

you can use windows media player but you need the divix codec. Just do a search for it in any search engine and you will find it. Download it, install it and from there it will work. This also fixes and video you download and it plays as a sound file with no picture.

If you have Playa installed then WMP will just find the divx codec and use it. And movies that are decent quality are usually 450-800MB for 1-2HR divx files.

depends on the type of movie, or on the type of compression used to be more exact, that file size and time isnt unheard of, but the quality would be very fugly. divx player is good if windows player is lagging, most people say windows media looks better for quality, but its not really noticable.

                            gdivx

The gdivx player is the only one I have been able to play .avi movies in without a problem. The website used to be gdivx.com, but that doesnt work anymore. A search using google and yahoo should bring a site that has it. Make sure you have the latest divx codec, that might be your problem. On movies that freeze, but the sounds keeps going, or just look pixly, download divxfix, and open the movie in that. Check out www.vcdhelp.com, there is a lot of information on there.
