That way also helps sort clothes into which are cleanest...

The ones at the bottom of the pile are cleanest and should be worn in precedence to the ones on top of the pile

Not really. There are variations though! I find that if I stand in the doorway of my room with an armfull of clothes and hurl them across the room it works well. I end up with jeans and heavier stuff in a pile against the wall by my bed, and socks, shirts, etc right by the door. Anything still floating down after 1 sec should probably hung up. Seems to work ok.
