Don't think of it as being outnumbered, think of it as a wide target selection.

I would say the biggest piece of advice I could give you.

Is when you are sitting there your freshman year up at 3am in the morning, and you have class the next morning. Ask yourself why??? If you are not doing homework, talking to your parents, or a young lady. Take your dumb butt to bed.

EDIT: Apparently spelling is not my strong suit.

Crap I learned in college (my experiances and others) aka 6 rules for college success:

                      1. No matter how convincing your argument, they'll still calculate your freshman and sophomore years into your GPA. Just keep that in mind.

                      2. If you're a sharp guy you can probably get away with either not studying or not going to class. Don't try both. (See rule 1)

                      3. When going on spring break read up on public nudity. Sometimes getting caught mooning can lead you to have to register as a sex offender.

                      4. If you're in doubt on if you should do something, just pretend your grandma is there.

                      5. Don't violate your morals or beliefs. If you cave to everybody's whim, even you won't like yourself.

                      Finally 6. Have fun!

Anybody else think Rule 3 must have one helluva story involved with it?

I agree though, and here are my pieces of advice from my college career.

                        1. If you're flunking a class and know there isn't anything you can do about it, drop it. You lose the credit, but it makes your GPA way better in the long run.

                        2. Try to mix in some classes of your major and not just all general education your first year. It makes the transition easier if you have something interesting to you in the mix of stuff you'd rather not go to class for. Trust me on this one.

                        3. Live on campus, at least for awhile. It's less expensive when you factor everything in, and you miss a lot of social life. I lived off campus for one year and went back. Their rules really aren't too hard to live under.

                        4. Make friends with some of the instructors in your major. For me, they have been an invaluable resource after graduation.

                        Have fun and congratulations!!!

                            1) Get involved in stuff. DO NOT SIT AROUND AND SAY "There's othing to do." By joining clubs/organizations, you'll find that your free time isn't so free anymore. It's occupied by fun.

                            2) Find some way to work with administration. It'll help you out in the long run. (I was the Godfather at school. I could get anything I needed. Just make friends with Public Safety, Deans, Department Chairpersons, RAs. EVERYBODY. If you're really lucky, you can become friends with the University president. I did. It helps when you are on the selection team for President Selection )

                            3) Enjoy yourself freshman year. It comes once. Just make sure you don't have TOO much fun, otherwise you may end up repeating it.

                            4) Be nice to the RAs (Or whatever term they use for Resident Assistant). They can make life fun or a living hell. I should know. I did both.

                            5) Find an internship in your field while you are at school. It'll give valuable experience, put something on your resume, and you may even get hired by the company.

                            6) Keep on track of your financial aid. Don't wait for mom and dad to do it. It's in your name.

                            7) DO NOT get a credit card for "emergencies." You'd be surprised how quickly "emergency pizza" and other stuff can add up.

                            8) Find a job either on or off campus. It'll provide spending money, and make it so you don't have to beg mom and dad. (If you can do this with rule 5, BONUS)

                            9) Don't burn any bridges you don't have to. You never know when somebody you pissed off will be evaluating you in an interview sometime. (Yes. Happened to me. And she called me on it. )

                            10) Stay the first month on campus. It doesn't matter if EVERYBODY goes home. Stay around. You'll find people to do things with.

                            11) Be SMART in regards to drinking. You're under age, so it's illegal. Is it going to happen? Sure. Just be smart about it. You'd be surprised how many freshmen I had to send to the hospital for alcohol poisoning during my RA career.

                            12) Since you're interested in the paintball team, check the rules about keeping equipment on campus/in your room. It would suck to have your Emag confiscated wouldn't it?

                            13) Take advantage of activities, movies, bands on campus. The school usually charges a "Student Activity Fee" of some sort to pay for this. If you don't go, you're paying for somebody else to have fun.

                            14) Work with incoming freshmen. You'd be surprised how many friends you will make.

                            15) No matter what people say, sleep is good. Just don't sleep through too many classes. If the school receives government funding, they WILL check attendance. And professors WILL factor it into your grade.

If you want any more words of wisdom, let me know.

thanks for all the advice everybody! As far as drinking goes I already do plenty of that so I know my limits (I'm a 3 beer biznatch, its genetic, AKA no frats for ole bobby boy!).

I'm accepted for Civil Engineering, the 4 year program, I've still gotta decide if I'm goin there or not, but that comes later.

misfit how do you like it? Do you know anything about their paintball team? I definately wanna jump on that.
