    6 months rule

does anyone think that 6 months rule for driving is retarded? i think it is because it was created to pull teenagers over at night. and i have been pulled over 2 times now both with people in my car within my first 6 months and the cops didnt even care or give me any sort of ticket. it seems like they dont care and only *some* parents are enforcing this law. i dont think this law should exist.

yes it is but you have to live with it. I got half a month left before I can legally drive people. It totally depends on what cop you get, if you get a nice cop he will give you a warning and a not very nice one will revoke your license.

I got a nice cop when I got pulled over for speeding (i know it isn't driving people but still) and he just gave me a warning. They just want to give you a warning so you don't do it again cause it is AGAINST the law.

Yeah it sucked, but it does make sense to me why they put it in place. Only like 7 more days until i am out of my first year. YAY!

most cops that are relativly nice will give teenagers that were not goin REALLY over or arent known trouble makers a warning cause 90% of them have been there before and understand back in their day they did the same stuff we do... hook up drink smoke.... and justr have fun.... hey you only live once they know we like to have fun but its when it goes to far that you get busted so be smart with your bad/fun habits

We don't have that law, but I think it's because the statistics for people who have accidents in their first 6 months of driving are horrendous. It's often because of being cajoled or showing off with/by friends that causes it before they have developed enough driving skill to actually handle the car.

I think it's a good idea. I think some speed limits are stupid though.

A car can very easily become a lethal weapon in the hands of the inexperienced, and often it's their friends or other innocents who pay the price. This sixth month law sounds like it is designed to reduce that.

You have to be 17 to get a drivers licence here. What's the age in the USA and Canada now?

Most states it's 16, and in Georgia you have to have your permit one year before you can get your liscense. Also in Georgia the liscenese you get when your 16 has curfews and other laws imposed on it, so you don't get your *real* liscense till you turn 18.

Same thing as Georgia, here in Tennessee. Just inacted the law within the last year. I missed it by a handful of years, but I'm glad they finally did it.
I'm way too old for this ****.

so when i go to the DMV,I am going to try and bribe them to give me my real liscense..since im already 16..

hopefully it works...if it doesnt...ill be graduated before i can drive

I think it's a pretty good idea myself. Personally it doesn't effect me cause I've been driving for almost 3 years and have had my license way before that law took effect in Washington. Sharley is right, driving is a privlage and not a right and I think kids need to realize this. I haven't come across any info that proves this law is actually working but I'm sure in the long run it will.

I think its a good idea, I just missed the law myself, but the only thing that really kinda pisses me off about the law is that you can't drive your younger siblings anywhere. My younger sister couldn't drive my younger brother to school. Such a pain in the neck.
