    Digital Camera help

I am buying someone a digital camera as x-mas gift, and I really don't know much about them. I have around 250-350ish dollars to spend on a nice camera, any suggestions?.

That is not much to spend on a camera. I say this because you will most likely want more memory, extra batteries, a charger, a case, a quick transfer, etc. All that will add up pretty quick.

Take a look at the Canon Series of digi cams. Good quality for a decent price.

Well I have plenty of memory. (you think a couple of 128meg sticks will be good?)

The 250-350 dollars is just for the camera alone, I'm not really looking for a profesional camera, just something that takes good pictures and is easy to use.

Oh heck... 128 will be fine for loads of pictures, and depending on the quality you can get from about 70 at Super High Quality, 160 at High Quality, and 1266 at Standard Quality (would advise for web or computer use only) per memory stick. Note that these are rough numbers, each camera will be a bit different, and if you shop online they should tell you how many pictures you will get at each for the amount of memory you have. But 128 will do you fine IMHO.

I would check online for cameras at least to "window shop". You can compair in a fairly short amount of time.

As Muzikman said, Cannon is a good choice, and you may want to check out Olympus as well.

I looked online and found this Kodak, what do yall think. I want to get atleast a 3 megapixel camera. Also this gift is for my father and I don't think he would like some of the small little digital camera's because he thinks those are "girly" .

I just picked up a sony cybershot for $200. Not too bad...rechargeable batts (comes w/charger), zoom, lcd, removeable memory stick. Definitely worth the price.

EDIT: very easy to upload pics too!

Hey sounds like a good camera, but MAKE SURE YOU READ REVIEWS ON CAMERAS OFF GOOGLE.COM (search for the camera name) because there are tons of them for just about every camera

and check amazon.com for reviews there too

Get a Canon Elph s200. Had mine for about a year and I love it, on a 128meg mem card i can get around 200 pics at 2 megapixel, around 700 at just above 1 megapixel. plus it can make small movies, not the greatist looking but not bad.

To give you an example, everything on the link below was shot using a Canon Elph S330, yes even the vid clips w/ sound.

I second that. I bought mine at the beginning of summer for $350... its a great camera plus its really small, which means it can fit in a pocket, and make for great blackmail photos! hehehe....

The s300 (I think thats the model name) would be good too, its exactly like the s200 only its a 3 megapixel camera instead of 2.

What kind of format are your 128 mb sticks? It wouldnt make sense to buy a camera that wouldn't be able to use them...

I haven't bought the memory yet, but I have set some money aside for them. Also now that I think about I should be able to spend around 400-500 dollars now, on a NICE camera.

well, if printing the pictures is planned, you probably want to look at least 2 or 3 megapixel cameras.

I personally use a 3.3 Megapixel Sony DSC-S75 camera, and love it alot, as far as I'm concerned paying more, for something a bit better that will last you a bit longer, is always a good idea IMO.

one resource that might help you out is this website: http://www.imaging-resource.com/

its got everything from reviews to price comparison on pracitcally anything involving photography.

one important thing to keep an eye on, is ease of use, and form factor, if its uncomfortable for you to use, and doesn't fit right, try other simular cameras, for the price you pay, you aught to get something thats comfortable to you.

Alright I've narrowed it down a little bit, and I would like for the more knowledgeable photographers of AO give me their opinions on these camera's. Like which one has better features, beacsue I don't know much about them.
