When you say not going to kill yourself with the speed, do you mean does it not have any ... uh, power?

The problem with a naturaly aspirated 4 cyl. is a lack of overall power. That's why you see all the fast imports are super/turbocharged.

The only engines that can be naturally aspirated and get away with killer performance are V-8s and the like, large displacement engines.

Unless you want to build an all-motor car.

There are daily driven honda's that run 12's, with no turbo, no supercharger, no nitrous, just natural aspiration.

Its very hard to get that from a Honda though Gotenks.

I hate the civics and integras with wings and stickers, the only engine mods are amplifying exhausts and air filters.

But the ones with fast I4s, those i can respect. Either they have a lot of money, or they know what they're doing. In most cases these days, its the money though .

Its very difficult to get a lot of power from such a small engine, thats why we stick with displacement. Displacement is the easiest way to get power. The more the displacement, the more potential power. Sure a Honda can have twice, even three times the horsepower (notice i say horsepower, not POWER, because the two are not the same) than a stock mustang.

                More on topic:

I've heard that the 240sx has a lot of pep, and is a nice little car. If you're looking for speed, get a 300zx TT. major vroom vroooms for the price.

Hey look the All-American gear head recomended a Japanese car!!! ahahahahahah !!!! hahahahahahhahahahaha ok i'm done.

boy would i love a 300zx tt, or a 3000gt vr4, but being that i am sixteen, insurance and the fact that my parents would never let me step into one kinda limits me.

Nissans as a general rule are great dependable vehicles. I have not had any experience with the 240 but have had two Altima's and a Pathfinder. Outside of a few relatively cheap things they all serve me well and last forever. I find thier 4 cylinders to be some of the longest lasting things in the business. I am not sure what they use in the 240 but these Altimas use the 2.4L DOHV Fuel injected (I think) and it slings those things around plenty good. Its not uncommon for them to get 250K on them and still be running. They handle like a race car. Tight and secure. Always crank up and run.

240 sx's are nice cars. There aren't to fast with the stock ka24 motor. It's a 2.4 liter four cylinder that nissan transplanted out of their little pickups into the us market 240. if you plan on doing anything to it, the ka is not the way to go. they dont take very well to tuning and forget about force feeding it. If you want to make it fast the best way would be to get a jdm sr20det and drop that in there.

If your just looking for reliable transprotation than its a great car. Its one of very few rear wheel drive imports. And everyone knows that rear wheel drive is way more fun than a front wheel drive car

Whoa there.... Thats way off base man.. Yes while the 89-90 s13 had a sohc KA24E, it was still slightly different from the KA of the hardbody(cam duration, compression, and other minor things). The 91-94 came with the dohc KA24DE and is probably what he'll be looking at. The platform besides that is identical throughout the years.

The KA abolustely hates detonation. Even a single time could blow the ring lands on a boosted stock KA. They are very responsive to mods as well, and can be easilly equipped with Forced Induction. It just takes a competent person to tune it right is all. They can run on 8-9 psi all day long with a simple injector, fuel pump, and fuel management upgrade. Most blown engines come from incompetent people who dont know what they are doing. With just bolt-ons and tuning I dropped my 1/4 mi time by 2 secs and that is with an automatic tranny (soon to be 5 speed when I get around to it).

Just because the SR is the "in" thing to do doesnt make it all that special. It would cost on average of 2k for just the motor tranny and other basic stuff. Alot of parts and money would still be needed to finish the swap if all parts are "good" on the engine. I could install an SR myself, but it would still be cheaper to go turbo KA-T. A little over a grand will get me a nice pieced together (cant believe people spend that much for a kit ) FI setup that will push 8 - 9 psi reliably, netting close to double the stock output if not more. If I do blow it, with the money I saved I could buy a few spare KA's from people tossing them out cheap and just drop a new (used or rebuilt) one in the next day.

But anyway... Dont underestimate an engine you obviously know little to nothing about, other then what the bandwagon mags say...

Yes but also more dangerous.. My first car was a 240, s13 91 fb LE... that I dont have anymore... I usually suggest some other type of car, mainly FF, that you can beat to hell and learn on other than a 240. Once you get some experience then go for one. By then you should know the basics of driving and maintenance and can appreciate a 240 for what its worth.
