    Stroke and Bore determin the swept area, which is what the displacement of the engine is rated...

    However, the chamber size is *not* considered in the measurement of the "size" of the engine. The compression ratio is actually the swept area compared to the size of the TDC chamber. {gets tricky to measure with domed pistons }

    The compression ratio is soley determined by the size of the head's chamber and the piston (domed or dished).

    {EDIT: added for clarity,

    The compression ratio is defined as the swept area:combustion chmaber size. The combustion chamber size is always defined as one(1). So a 10:1 ratio means in a 5 liter engine, there is 500cc space left at the top of all the cylinders combined, if each of them was at TDC.

    end Edit}

    Granted without the stroke, you can't have a compression ratio but the manufactures don't change the stroke to change the compression ratio. Even racers don't change the stroke to mess with compress ratio, since they want to stay in the same class which is most likely displacment based...

    I think its becoming one of those "yea well i have DOHC" thingies where no one knows what that stands for, or what a cam rod really does, but its printed on the top of your V-Tec so it must be good.
    Absolutly right. Amen.
