Another useless FalconGuy post...
Someone should reset his post count.
Anyway, the Magellan ones are good. If you want an "expert" opinion, RobAGD knows a lot about GPS units.
I have a Garmin eTrex. It's not great, but it works. I have it for geocaching, though, not driving. It doesn't have maps or anything.

I have the 315, and it takes a bit of use to figure the whole thing out. I love mine especially for marking sites when I go scuba diving. I find a place I like to dive I then mark the point and then I can return when ever I want.
One of the problms with this is these units are not as accurate as the military ones(for obvious reasons...) so it brings you with in 50 - 100ft of the spot. If you are thinking trying this "geo-caching",(sp?) you will have to look around a little before you find what you're looking for. But that's the fun right? I enjoy using mine, although it's not as often as I would like...
I say buy it, you'll enjoy it. Have fun. If you have any ?? PM me.

If you ever fly there are some awsome full-color moving map displays for aviation out there, if you have $1300+.
