More expensive than my paintball habit ...

Is my DJ'ing ... I was thinking about this today.

I spent a grip of cash on my DJ equiptment (2 Technics MKII Tables and mixer, plus stereo setup for it, plus Sony V700 headphones) .... then you figure records are about 10 bucks a piece, so gotta update a few every check, then ya got the case to carry the records (which doubles as my paintball case now) .... plus driving to these parties to DJ, running my website, etc.

Good lord ... I spend more money on that!

    Sincerely,
    Dave K

yeah, but what ya get paid at a party as a local doesn't finance anything, it covers your records ...

locals make about 50-100 bucks ... you get paid when you get booked out of state or out of your normal playing radius.

      Sincerely,
      Dave K

Thats pretty good. He must be part of a Mobile DJ company. Or his clientele must be pretty good.

Man, I know how you feel. I'm an artist, so I'm always buying paint, canvases, pencils, etc., etc. See, they stick it to you in art because when you're starting out you don't make a lot, and art supplies aren't the cheapest things in the world to buy. What's funny is, then you factor in I'm a paintball player and I'm just completely screwed for cash! Still, nothing is as expensive as my paintball habit!

                  Yeah its more expensive...

                  1) Technics MKII 1200 tables: 425 a piece x2 = 850
                  2) Mixer: 350 bucks (average 600 for the one i want)
                  3) Headphones: 140 bucks (when i bought them last year)
                  4) Record Case: 100 bucks
                  5) Records: 10 a piece, i have about 100 so far and growing

Keep in mind those are new product prices, just like everything here you can find deals used ... but thats what it cost when i bought them new

and the list goes on ...

Yeah, I make about 50 if I ask the promoter to pay (friend i dont make pay, they're my friends) ... and if its out of state 100+

                  Sincerely,
                  Dave K

You think DJing is expensive, try recording. I have over $40K into gear and it's still just high quality demo grade. If I ever wanted to do it for a living, a small studio would cost ya $200K in just gear.

Hehe, thats why I'm a DJ ... I dont need the studio gear ..lol.. plus I cant play anything but the piano

Yeah a good friend of mine has a small studio that cost him a small fortune...

My setup cost me abut 2500 (including my computer that I built cause I use it for digital recording/editing) ... and it does what I need it to ..

                        Sincerely,
                        Dave K

Thats great! I hope everything works well for them.

DJ'ing can get very expensive espically when you purchase all the equipment. Turntables, Mixer, Amps, Full range speakers, Subs, EQ, Crossover, lighting, records, its endless. But if you have a steady clientele which pays good it should pay off in the long run.

I still haven't anything more expensive than paintball.

If I were to play every weekend...

15 for field fee and all day air
65ish for a case of paint

Thats about 320 dollars a month or 3840 dollars a year!! And this is just for paint and air, it's not even including your marker, tank, hopper, pack, entrance fees, plane tickets, hotels, etc.
