    Custom RC Cars

I'm considering making a custom RC car. Was wondering if anyone had any pointers as how to go about it. It will be a gift... bottom line is I'd like it to be better than vanilla store bought RC car... but don't need it to be some super racer.

Want to put on a 39 or 41 Studebaker body on it...

To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen an Studebaker RC body, but I'm sure with some creativity you could convert something out of a stock lexan body.

You're going to need a good base car, however. You'll have to decide if you want a gas- or battery-powered car, what scale you want, etc. I'd look over websites like www.towerhobbies.com and see if you can find something workable. Another option would be to get a standard plastic model of a Studebaker that would be the correct size for whatever base you'd build it on. The downside to this would be that the body would be extremely fragile and probably shatter on the first wall you hit with the car.

If you REALLY want a custom car, it's going to be a lot of work. You can certainly do it, but it will involve a lot of trial and error, lots of parts, and lots of cash.
