Something I've never understood with baseball players at my school is why they must do conditioning. It's not like it's a sport where your constantly moving, the most you run is for about a string of 5 seconds. Half the time your standing or sitting around. It's something that's baffled me.

Want to hit homers? Hit the cages and hit the weights. You'll get stronger quicker. Stamina for pitching, yeah arm stamina, not stamina that you'd get from run conditioning. You build up your arm buy throwing often so it doesn't get tired, just like you'd run for the purpose of wanting to be conditioned.

To me conditioning for baseball is the biggest waste of time. You could use that 2-3 hours you spend running to work on other aspects of your game. Let's face it, baseball isn't a run run run fast paced game, its a very slow paced game. You don't have to be in any physical shape at all to play (just look at many MLB players, some aren't exactly what I'd call tip top atheletes, ie David Wells, Mo Vaughn).

I agree. I used to play baseball but it just wasn't any fun for me, maybe i just need to be doing something where i am always running or always moving.

Heh and we now know who plays tackle, heh just messing with ya. One of the funniest things I've heard was Nick Bakay on ESPN say about the big boy QB Jared Lorenzen from Kentucky, he said "he's proven to the kids that you can weigh over 280 lbs and not have to play nose tackle."

youd be surprised how much work goes into baseball

it requires power, speed, hand eye cordiantion, and a good batters eye

and the conditioning part u will need the xtra power and energy when u play a gruling 9inning game (3-4 hrs long) in 90+ degreee weather

Lemme tell you....you go pitch 150 balls(100 in the game plus 8 per inning warm up) at JUST65mph (most high schoolers do 75-85) and then tell me it doesnt take conditioning to pitch. running doesnt just make legs strong, it improves your cardovascular system. it WILL make you a better ANYTHING ATHLETIC to run 3-4 miles per day. Even just in workouts, with the increased conditioning from running a 2 hour work outs goes from 45 mins productive to 1hr 15mins tired to 1hr 30mins productive to 30mins tired. RUNNING helps.

oh, and im back in action for spring track this year...lookin at 1:58 in the 800m, 4:36 in the mile and who the hell cares in the two mile??
