    ATTN: Dog Owners

I have a soft coated wheaten terrier(about 18 months) who will not stop barking! I'm just wondering if any of you use to have a dog that did the same thing and, through some mysterious technique that I don't know about, broke him or her of its habit. I'm contemplating using a spray bottle filled with water to squirt him with whenever he barks but I'm not sure if that will work. Thanks for your help.

I don't know if this tid-bit of information will help or not but we live in a somewhat remote area so whenever a car or animal is outside, that he doesn't know or recogninize, he just barks at it. He also barks because of dogs next-door barking. By the way I've already tried the very firm, "NO BARK!" command and that doesn't seem to have any effect.

He's barking a lot. It's getting to the point where, if he were a person, you'd probably want to smack him across the face(which I would NEVER do to a dog by the way). It's just frustrating for me because anytime he's inside and he sees something move outside, he barks. If I wanted to put him outside so he can go to the bathroom, it's getting to the point that it seems he wants to go to the bathroom but what he ends up doing when he gets outside is barking.

well, maybe this site can help:

            or this one

Also, some dog training books offer great advice. Check out some training books at Barnes and Noble or Borders. Hope this helps!

zap collar. It helped my lil terrier a lot but then we gave her away cuz she was an annoying hyper-active dog.

A plastic peanut butter jar with about 5 pennies. Run over and shake it in your mutts face when he does something wrong. It worked great for both our dogs.

Ha ha . . . Okay thanks Load, although I think my dog will either hate me or just look at me with that confused dog look. Thanks everyone.

If you have a pet store nearby, visit it and they should have some sort of spray that could help you. We used this apple scented kind on my dog when he was younger to calm him down. Also, this is a little different but it could possibly help. My dog gets very scared when it rains or thunders, to the point of constant whining and barking. We have a dog form of ritilin (or the like) that we got from the vet for him, it calms him down a lot but makes him drowsy.

Also, does the dog bark when he sees the dogs, or when he hears them, or both? You may just want to seal your dog off from areas so that he doesn't see or hear them. Maybe trying getting your dog some toys if he doesn't have any already so its something that keeps him busy.

If none if this works, it may be time to seek a vet's advice, it may even be time to think of taking out the bullets from the gun if you know what I mean (if it's a male, because it might even be this causing him to do it), often dogs are a lot more calmer after this.

This is actually a really good way to do it. I've got two Yorkshire Terriers...who bark...alot...

We put a couple pennies in an empty Dr. Pepper can, and taped it shut. We shake it at them any time they start barking, and do the "NO BARK!" thing...it worked for a while, but then we became too lazy to go look for the can when they started up. We just live with it now.

maybe i missed this par but, is it barking at things or randomly starts barking? if at things let i go check them out you said it was a young dog so it could just be curious.

about how long has it been doing this?
