I saw Carmen on Friday at the Met. It was great. Denyce Graves played Carmen and was awesome. I just wish I could afford to go more often. If anyone has a chance to go, I highly recommed it.
Any opera lovers?

I usually go 2-3 times a year. Of the ones I've seen, The Queen of Spades was definitely the best and The Flying Dutchman takes a close second. So far this season I've only seen Sweeney Todd and I was a bit disappointed with it. The singing was very operatic, but it was in English and couldn't seem to make up it's mind if it wanted to be a comedy, tragedy, musical, play, or opera. There were a few good jokes in it, though.
If you have a choice, almost all of Mozart's operas are excellent, as are Wagner's. And yes, the opera can be incredibly expensive. Even the $100 seats are in the "nosebleed" section. -
The funny thing though is that the highest seats, usually have the best sound. Of course it's like watching ants signing.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

that's why I said, "dunno about operas, but..."
guess may be I assumed everyone knows what a broadway show is. (though I used to follow Povoratti pretty closely a while back, but he got too comercial, so I lost interest)
