IIRC- aren't their official findings due on Monday to the U.N. Security Council?

Then we'll see what the weapons inspectors have or haven't been doing in Iraq.

Actually, the weapon inspectors are there to verify the destruction of the WMD, NOT find them. Very clearly worded in the latest UN resolution, Bush didn't want a cat and mouse game.

wow... a historic agreement between two warring factions! Hell, if WE can agree on something, there should be no problem pounding out a deal in Iraq!

I have to admit I got a little scared when he said "tracking". I was thinking of little shock collars you would put on dogs, and while funny to see, I think it would be a bad idea ...

But as for our border patrol problem... Its a little more complicated... I mean, the illegal immigrants DO work hard here... they take the jobs most Americans would be too proud to do. I don't see very many people begging for jobs as a crop picker, or asking to clean out toilets... but then again with our rising unemployment rate and increasing numbers of illegals, I think it can only be a bad thing if it is allowed to continue...

I agree the flow of illegal aliens must be controlled. Here in California our economy is very dependant on illegal immigrant workers...so as you said its more complicated than just saying "use the military to shut down the border".

Im sure more Americans have been murdered by illegal aliens than from Iraqis.

Immigrant and illegals are two diffrent things. Keep in mind 13% of your inmates are illegals.

... 5 years later, The embassy bombings in Africa... Nobody cared about that, I mean really, it was in Africa, thats 3000 miles away. I can't recall the exact number of dead (hundreds?) but there was next to nothing done about it.

I believe it was 224 total. I am not sure, but I believe that no Americans were killed in that attack. Hence, apathy reigns.

3 years after that, the 9/11 attacks. We got at least a couple years until the next attack happens. No matter what we do, we won't be able to stop it. It WILL happen. We might have new restrictions, 1,000 new homeland security laws, but they'll find a way around it. Eventually the security will lax, then they strike again...

Well, we also had a history of having Presidents assasinated every 20 years or so, but Hinkley missed. History may repeat itself with Americans getting killed by terrorists on American soil. However, we don't have to let it be easy for them to do it. If you go to prison and have a big cellmate, are you going to just roll over and ask him to be gentle?

Yep, its just you. Then what do we have? You want to take EVERY freedom Americans EVER had, and throw them down the toilet? Why? So you can just shove more hot dogs in your face-hole? Whats the point of even living then? They may be safe, but there is no point in existing in a society where nothing can be done without prior approval, IMHO...

Freedoms, rights, and priveledges. The only things we are guaranteed in the consitution are our rights. Check them out.

Thats the JOB of the weapons inspectors. They find the bad stuff, tell everyone about it, we do something abou it? If (according to you) they found chem weapons, it will all be revealed. If they havent (remember, they have only been in the country for about 2 months now... Iraq is a big place) then there should be no problem...

Is there job to find the bad stuff? Or is it their job to confirm that Iraq has disposed of the bad stuff in the manner that they say?

                              Where's the VX gas?

American lives ARE being protected by NOT going to war. How many service men's lives are YOU willing to trade for your the disarmament of Iraq?

Now it get's personal to me. My friends are headed over now. Friends from when I was in, friends that are reservists. My question to you is, how many people will die becuase Iraq chooses to not follow the mandate given to it after 1991 and disarm, hence keeping sanctions in place that are killing it's people? How many people will die if Saddam decides it's time to smell mustard in Tel Aviv? How many people will die the next time he decides he's bored and wants to take over a neighboring country?

During my time in I knew one truth, that I was expendable to save others lives. You really can't quantify a hypothetical situation, but how many American lives would you have sacrificed to prevent the wholesale slaughter of 12 to 15 million people?

Don't you think we should know what we would be facing if there is a war? The inspectors are seeing ALL facets of Iraqi life. They know what could be used against US and UN ground forces... I know its the service men and women's job to do this, but I don't think anyone is EAGER for combat, it should be used as a last resort.

No sane person is eager for war. War is a crappy thing in which my friends die for a cause I hope is just. If it gets bad, it could be my life that gets sacrificed. I will go knowing that I am doing what I can to rid the world of one despot that has the ability to kill millions.

THAT IS THEIR JOB! to PREVENT war. After the failure of the League of Nations, and the MASSIVE death in WWII, they set up to prevent war and create peace. The UN isn't a war-mongering council. They seek to preserve the peace in any way, without becoming another League of Nations.

Much like the LON, their inability to stand up and say "knock it off" with authority is going to render them obsolete.

How does the UN mandate to dutch "peacekeeprs" not to fire unless fired upon bring peace to the people that they had to watch get slaughtered? Here is an article that appeared before the depth of what happened came out. I will confirm for you that it is sickeningly close to the truth. The numbers are a conservative estimate.

In case you are wondering, I worked at a place that investigated Bosnian war crimes. Mass graves are a hard image to expunge from your mind, and hopefully I never will. That image strengthens my resolve when I am in a situation in which I may have to put myself in danger to help others. I know the cost of war, and I know the cost of pacifism in the face of slaughter.
