    Craig Kelly, RIP.

For those of you who take a single plank and head down snow laden hills. One of the pioneers of the sport. Craig Kelly, was killed on monday after getting caught in an avalanche in Eastern British Columbia near Revelstoke. Any of you that have ever seen Kelly in a video will probably recognize the area, it was one of his hangouts, he had a cabin up there. I have yet to talk to some of my friends that knew/were friends with him about this yet. So I know nothing more than what I have got from the news and from stories about Craig. From what I understand, he was a great guy, anad I for one am sorry that I never got a chance to meet him.

I implore all of you, if going into the backcountry, know what you are doing and bring the proper gear. Avalanches kill.

Yeah, I heard that on the news. Sad day for his family and snowboarders everywhere.

EDIT: Seriously, know what the heck you're doing and for the love of GOD buy an avalanche beacon at a minimum!

Yeah, I can't believe that happened. I was so shocked when I heard what happened I couldn't even believe it. This guy practically made snowboarding popular on the west coast. I never got to meet him but living in Washington and riding the same mountains he used to and hearing the stories about him just makes it a bit personal. My condolances go to his family and friends.

Need to send a RIP out to this innovator. The weird thing is that he was EXTREMELY safe when it came to avalanches. He even taught a course in avalanche safety. I heard on the radio that this was not caused by his own actions, which makes it a tiny bit better (I suppose).

Craig was one of the best. He had such an amazing feel for his board, but he was great to be around off the slopes too. He was one of those guys you could talk to for just a short while and feel like he was an old friend. I for one will truly miss him.

ShooterJM - Please know what you are talking about before you open your mouth. Craig was a very experienced backcountry rider and this wasn't the first time he's had a run in with an avalanche. He has always been very responsible when it comes to safety and has saved the life of one of my friends because of his preparedness and quick action.
