Trouble Finding work (Student)

Well you have pretty well ruled out working till you have graduated from college. The only opition you have left is being a refs but those jobs are hard to find. I'm trying to get work at a local grocery store, God I would love haveing that check every two weeks.

Well - sorry to say it but you seem to have chosen to be unemployed. It seems that you aren't willing to do what is necessary to be able to join teh work force. Welcome to the real world.

I hope you can get a job that you "like", but I highly doubt that will ever happen based on your above comments. It's really too bad, because any work and getting paid is better than no work and no pay.

maybe you need to check your 'tude at the door when looking for a job and just get one, until you can get something better. As an example, in my far-past, I was layed off from a well-paying engineering/labor position. In my case, I had a wife and a new baby daughter and though I felt like "those jobs" (food-sector, etc.) were beneath me, I took a job at Wendys for just over minimum wage. The reason was that they were walking distance and I needed to take care of my "house", so did whatever I could.

Your situation isn't as drastic as mine was, but believe me, circumstances change. If you want to start getting paid something, you need to start working. It's all about priorities. how bad do you really wnat to play paintball? apparently not bad enough if you say "don't want", "can't handle", "no-no" to the jobs that are easily available to you.

I hope you don't think I am getting on your case, or jumping down your throat, cause I am not really, this is just a pet peeve of mine when I hear people say they wnat money, but don't want to go to work however necessary to get it (especially when there ARE jobs available).

Umm.. well first of all, almost any job you get DURING school will suck.

If you seriously have a superiority complex I'd like to think you're at least average at something useful, either that or your parents were a little to free with the self esteem...

Get a job doing that.

Be a late night janitor. Shovel horse crap. Be a bartender. Lots of stuff you can do....

We all went through the same thing joeyjoe. Only suggestion I have is food service (like Wendys), but work with your friends. Even having one friend work the same schedule as yourself can make the job many times better.

Thanks guys. I was actually kinda expecting to get this sort of response, seeing as it's AO and not just anyother forum.

I don't have a "superiority complex" persay, I was being a little sarcastic, but I Do have a bit of a hard time hiding frustration. I'm a very frank person. I *Can* deal with customers, but not with uncooperative, angry, or just plain' Dumb ones.

Rambo: You're right. I HAVE chosen to be unemployed, but It's not as vital a situation as you described. If I had to support a wife and children, I wouldn't hesitate to start at a grocery store or something like that. FYI, I'm only 18 years old, and my parents take care of me for the most part. They pick up Tuition and provide me with a car. For that I'm very thankful. Unfortunatly, they won't support my paintball habit

Anyway, what I'd really like is a job that's in an office environment. I once had a job scanning medical records into a database at a doctor's office. It was really nice because I did have friends there (restola) and I just went in, did my job, clocked out when I was done for the day, and went home.

Anyone know where these sort of jobs are posted? or where to look for them?

check out banks. A lot of times they need part time proof operaters. Pretty mindless, they do it after the bank closes. Or a part time bank teller. They pay pretty decent.

Yeah, man like others have said goodluck finding a job in these times being that picky. Most of the jobs out there that you can get without a college degree are in the food or retail services and even those are hard to get now. I think if you wanna really find work that you can schedule around school then you're gonna have to suck it up and go for a job in retail or something. I mean all us hate dealing with rude customers or ignorant people but it all comes down to one thing, do you wanna have money to play paintball? I know I never truly liked the first jobs I had but you just learn to not let it get to you.

I would definately seek internships if you can through your school.You may have to do the grunt work at some of these places and you may not make extremely good money but you'll be gaining experience in the field that you wanna go into and who knows maybe after the internship is over that company will wanna hire you back once you're outta school. I know I'm gonna do as many internships as my school will allow me to get credit for plus some just to get experience as well as make some cash while going to school.

humm... Well, I am 19 and also in college - however I am one of those students who work at the University as a "student-worker". It is an office job, BUT I do have to deal with a large sum of people on a daily basis. You are setting standards way to high for you age and skill level. When I was in high school I worked at a SubWay and at a PetCo - SubWay was alright-easy money, but Petco was the best after school job in the world. I loved working with animals. But that was an interest of my own.
You can look into jobs at the school as a student worker, try internships (although they are VERY hard to come by as a freshman in college), or put your priorities straight and take a job you don't particularly want or be unemployeed.

When I was in college I work at a place called ReGIS. They did inventory for other places. The job payed well, and was very flexible. They called you a couple days before, and if you were availble, or felt like it, you met at what ever store they were doing.
