What's with all the hubub about pot lately?

Hey, it's been around for a while... and yet recently I've seen two actual threads in this forum regarding it. Any specific reason why? I read an article in Time Magazine a few months ago called (I think) "Is America going to POT?", which had a lot of info in it. As I recall the legalization of it has been an issue of controversy lately... but I haven't been really keeping up with that. So, what's the deal?

Oh and please don't turn this into a massive flame-fest. This thread is completely "legal" under the forum rules... I just would like to know why these threads have been sprouting. Don't start the flames a-kindling so "The Man" won't close em.

    wel...another closed thread....

but since its not closed yet....

If you ask me, pot being legal would be a good thing. Drugs in general are the cause of much of america's crime and esp murder. There would need to be restrictions(Who can sell it, Who can buy it, etc--like booze now) however, it being legal would imho be a good decision.
that being said, Im not smoking anthing. My lungs are happy as they can be right now and dont need either cigarettes or pot to come in and kill them. A little beer or something, ill do, but when it comes to "ta-bac-ie" as we call it down here in NC or hardcore drugs and pot, thats where i draw the line

Whats with all the starting ANOTHER copy of a thread that already exists and is being allowed to stay open?

Would you like us all to copy/paste our posts from the other thread?

Also, if we did make it legal, then america could tax it, in which case the country would profit.

Ugh, people! I simply asked why is there so much talk about it, not whether it should be legalized or not! I was just wondering if there was some sort of bill to be passed or something that was causing all this ruckus!

No clue man. To me, pot is something bored high schoolers do instead of doing anything practical.

Exactly. Not to mention it also extends further into the after-high school population as well. Pot should not be legalized even for medicinal purposes. Thats why there is morphine, cuz if your that messed up, pot wont even help.

to anwser the original question, my best guess is that because there has been so much serious talk of it being decriminilized in canada, and the US gov. is concerned about the border then being an issue. also becuase its become so prevalent in canada it cant help but spill across the border as a political issue into the states.
