Shooter - It's a little hard for me to figure that one as there are generally many cases that could result in that. If you could give me a few more specifics it would be helpful.
A basic thing you can try is:
Try keeping your legs closer to your body in the air, then when you get to the landing extend into it. That way you are initiating the contact with the ground, not it coming up and slamming you. If you do this it is easier to "dictate the terms of engagement" so you hit the ground when you are ready. Usually if you concentrate on this you will not land with your legs too bent up (which could be a cause for your prob), you will extend your feet in the least distance path to the snow (help with the balance thing).
