By the time they pick up lazer its too late. They do pick em up but he has you when you hear the bleep. Anything that actualy Jams or fools Lazer/radar is illegal tampering and hindering an officer in performing his duty. Not sure they could catch but if they do there is a general clause they can site you with and its steep! The only state that detectors are illegal is Virginia. And its a $100 fine to have one in the window wether its turned on or not its in use and they can stop you and cite you. They cannot confiscate it but you will be requested to remove it and put it away. Don't ask me how I know this for sure. I may be the only person in the world that got popped for one in Virginia. At least the Motorcycle cop that stopped me said I was his first in 8 years on the force. I had traveled almost through the entire state and was a mile from crossing over the Woodrow Wilson into Maryland when I got pulled. And mine wasn't even turned on and I had even forgotten it was sitting up there in the window all the time! DoooH! So I had to mail the State of Virgina a check for 100 bucks when I got back home.

Hawaii

Hey,
Why do you need a radar dector on Hawaii? Are there enough large highways that you can actually get up to a decent speed on? Just asking.

They are also illegal in the District of Columbia.

Yeah I got pulled over in canada because they thought I had one. In some states in NE they're either illegal to sell or illegal to use, but not both! Pretty funny.

But like I said, I don't use one. I find I had way more close calls with one then without one. False sense of security. Better just to be very attentive and vigilent.

If you are driving cross country get a CB radio and talk to the truckers. You just ask someone going the other direction what's behind them and they'll tell you and you do the same.

Mine has actually saved me from more tickets than my radar detector although I run both just in case. The CB also saved me from an accident because a trucker came over the top of a hill and just barely stopped before he rear-ended the accident. He broadcasted where it was and I was like a mile away. I slowed down and 3 people whizzed past me and all three ended up in the median hitting each other because they crested the hill and couldn't stop before they would hit stopped cars and had to veer off the road into the median.

Like has been said above, after you've been driving for a while, you learn where cops are most likely going to be. That little dot to the side of the overpass you are approaching could be a cop shooting on coming traffic for his buddies on the ramp to go pick up, blind hills and the darkened areas next to overpass supports are where I usually make sure that I'm doing within 5 of the limit. Not to mention that all districts around here use instant-on radar and laser guns, if it beeps, its far to late.

Yeah, like others have said they're just a false sense of security. One of my friends had one and always got pulled over. Even if they do claim to block lasers or radar or whatever if you're going way to fast the cops the gonna know it. I think it's just better to use common sense and read the traffic and such and actually try and figure out where a cop's gonna sit or if you've got a connection get a police scanner, just don't let the cops see it if you do get caught.

Cb's are so much fun to listen to... listening to truckers lingo... i was driving along with my uncle who drives trucks for a living... he owns his own company him and my other uncle John Jay Trucking.... well i was listening and there are so many code words....Meat wagon=Ambulance Meat wagon w/ disco lights=Ambulance with its lights on.... i started cracking up... but my uncle didn't understand y cause he has been driving trucks for so long ....
