Ok, so you have a picture....The background should be a solid color for this to work well. Remember that blurry edges don't usually work too well. Anyway, when you're done with your picture, and it's ready to go, like this:
Go to Image, then Mode, and select Indexed color. Just click ok on the window that pops up. Then go to File, Export, Gif89a Export. A window will pop up. Use the eye dropper to sample all the colors you want to be transparent (they well be shown as grey in the picture). When you are happy with your selections, click ok, and save it (as a Compuserve Gif). That's how I do mine. It should now look like this:
I know, this one is a little messed up, but I only spent a minute on it...I hope it helps. Good luck.
EDIT: this is all in Photoshop. -
the only thing in the exports menu are Path to Illustrator and ZoomView
theres no gif89a
what do i do??
here, can you just take the pic in my sig (pie revolution), and make it into a transparent .gif

I deleted text and background with the magic wand, resized the image to 40% original (which is why it's a little pixelated) paint can filled the transparent space with a neytral grey, and then selected that as the transparent shade and exported.
I suck....lol
